Two questions

1) I see references here and there about selling armor to a merchant to upgrade it...presumably to the next tier? How does this work? I've tried just about everything I can think of and it still doesn't seem to get upgraded.

2) How do you get skills or talents onto your hotbar? I'm doing some shuffling of my skills, and a skill that I THOUGHT I wouldn't need on my (and so I dragged it off and removed it) it ends up I need after all. How do I get that back on my bar? I try dragging it from my skills window onto my bar, but that doesn't work, which is weird because I could swear I've done it successfully in the past. Any clue why I am unable to do this?

1) I've seen those references as well, but have never figured it out. I myself prefer to use the winter forge for all my gear- http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=122 which lets you modify most of the gear in game to your heart's content.

2) Make sure that the little LOCK icon in the left hand corner of the skill bar is open. You can lock/unlock the bar by clicking that icon. Open is unlocked, closed is locked.

I've got Winter Forge installed, but I haven't actually used it and I'm most of the way through my playthrough. I'm finding the whole thing with tracking down recipes and hunting down materials on vendors to be daunting. I just want to upgrade the damn armor so that my Warden Commander gear isn't Tier 3 when fighting the archdemon, not take on a whole new tradeskill. Grrr... (at WF, not you, Darkwolfe)

As for the second problem, I think I found the answer. When using skills where there are four tiers of the same skill (like pickpocketing, or poison making or whatever) you have to drag the icon from the FIRST tier down to your bar, not from the other tiers.

The recipes and materials you don't need. Theres an option to turn those off  If you click on the barrel there behind the elf, the option to check for materials is there. just set it not to, and then you won't need those anymore.

making the commander to say, tier 7 is easy. just put a piece in the forge, and choose to alter it's properties, and then choose a new material for it. If you're using version 3 or later, I'd go with the silver enamalled metal, as the shoulder pieces and parts of the gloves and boots DO show the regular metal color, and vanilla dragonbone will look BAD on that armor.

to use the enamalled metal, you have to turn the dialog option off on the barrel, and then work directly thru the forge itself, instead of talking to the elf.
