Been a smoker for about 4 years, started on stupidity. i have tried of few of the aids in the past but find myself getting back on the smoking wagon about 5-7 months after quitting. i believe its because im stuck on the oral habit, and because i live with other smokers. i do NOT want in this thread

-The million reasons to quit (trust me, i know them)

-Trolls

In advance if this flames out i genuinely apologize to the mods

So to people whom are smokers i ask

What quit smoking aids have you tried? what successes have you had? do you know of an aid that can be used to fix just the oral fixation (later down the road) without involving the Nic?

Is there a product that helps in that week 2 -> month 3 phase where your lungs are regrowing tissue and you cough like crazy?

Thanks for any insight.

and to anyone wondering, im asking here because its so far off topic, i might actually get some neutral answers, and honest opinions.

Thanks in advance

The best aid you can have is discipline. No amount of gums, patches, lozenges, injections will both make you want to quit and give you the strength to resist lighting up. They can help, but as long as you aren't absolutely committed to quitting (more than financially), doing so can be incredibly hard. You have to want it with every fiber of your being in order to truly stop.

Having friends who smoke can make things much more difficult since there's always that smell and temptation. Not saying that you need to ditch your friends, but you may want to explain things to them and make a rule that they can't smoke around you (usually causes them to ditch you unfortunately). It's nearly impossible to abstain from something that you connect with the environment and activities you are currently doing. Away from that environment and focused on a different task, and it's a bit easier, if however more lonely.

Discipline is all that is required. I stopped on Friday, after smoking for about a year, and I can tell you, I crave a cigarette now. I'm not about to give in, though. If I give in I'll end up smoking all over again. I know it's really, really difficult, but if you can persist you will stop craving for them soon. If you suddenly start feeling like smoking, just find something to occupy your mind, however difficult that seems. It gets easier over time.

I have always loved smoking. I really injoy it. I know I cannot quit, that´s why I have accepted it, and continue to injoy it. I am 54 now. During the past 10 years, 15 of my friends / family have died off, too early due to cancer. Only one of them was a smoker.
