DarkeWolf
I gave up on this stuff quite a while ago and decided to wait for Bioware to throw a couple patches in to see if things got fixed. Now that I'm back around, can anyone tell me if the new patches have fixed our ability to use mods? Or is everything still ridiculously broken? Honestly... for a lot of people 1.04 made it worse. The latest patch supposedly reverted script use back to 1.02 (which for the most part worked before 1.03 got involved) however.... now a lot of the NEW items scripts dont work like they are supposed to  So yeah, going with the methods that I posted above, is about the only way to guarantee that they're gonna load :( Edited October 5, 2010 by DarkeWolf
APersonOnAComputer
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a minute. Back when I was here 1.03 was the bane of our existence because it messed up all the mods. Did everyone manage to find a way to make all the mods work on 1.03 before 1.04 came out? Because if that's the case it might be possible for me to actually get mods to work AND still be able to use Awakening! Tell me more!
RustyBlade
I have in excess of 8 GB worth of mods tacked on to mine, they all work... well more or less (some don't work well with Bioware's latest DLC) but for the most part I have no or just minor issues. Most of them were installed when I had 1.03 also. Guess it depends on what you use.

Because if that's the case it might be possible for me to actually get mods to work AND still be able to use Awakening! Tell me more! Yeah, I agree with what you said about patch 1.03. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled my game to get rid of it, after playin thru Awakening. We figured out methods to circumvent the problem. By disabling the mods that dont load correctly, before starting the character up, and playing til the game could be saved. Then re-enabling the mods so that they would load.However... to the best of my knowledge (and I could definitely be wrong, corrections are VERY welcome) there's no actual "fix" for the problem. And 1.04 actually made it worse. Even more mods that add items to the inventory, dont work now. Here's some of the abbreviated ways to add them to an existing character.1) Use hdhd's add item script to add them to the player via console. But, his mod cannot include each and every mod out there. Especially since he doesn't hang out on the site much anymore, so it hasnt been updated in quite a while. Which means MANUALLY editing his script, recompiling it in the toolset, and then running the console command.2) Manually adding the items to the player's inventory via a savegame edit in the toolset. This has some very bad drawbacks as the toolset WILL NOT open all savegames. It crashes to the "out of memory error" if the savegame is too big. Tho both of these methods require cracking open the mod's .erf files in the toolset, to get the filenames of the mod's items :(
APersonOnAComputer
Wow. It all sounds really complicated now. I don't really know how to edit the .erf files or anything like that. Would this explain why I couldn't get my item mods to work correctly when I was trying to do so before? Do you think you could walk me through the process for this sort of thing? I'd like to actually be able to try these mods that everyone keeps talking about. So far they seem like something of a legend. It's like people telling you faeries exist when you can't see them simply because you didn't believe.
RustyBlade
You may want to try this Tutorial on Adding Your Own Items to the Game. I used the information in it to create my own custom uniform armor set for all my companions and my PC. It uses the additem script and is pretty simple if you know how to copy and paste and then change a few things. Every time I add a new companion I just use the script for the class/weapon type and it pops into inventory. No disabling and reenabling, no conflicts, no aggravation.
APersonOnAComputer
Should I update to v1.03 before doing the console enabling and stuff? My knowledge of the toolset and everything is basically zero.

My knowledge of the toolset and everything is basically zero.Very few of the DA:O mods (if any... none that I use or even know about) REQUIRE any patch at all. But all the DLCs after TSP do. DA:A and LS require 1.03, GoA and WH require 1.04. So it's up to you whether you install any of that additional content and therefore the necessary patch(es). [Edited: Sorry, forgot about "Advaced Tactics", and others in that line. They rely on some of the scripting engine changes included in 1.03, which were accidently rolled back in 1.04! ] Edited October 14, 2010 by Thandal
DarkeWolf
Thandal- Universal Dye Kit doesnt work with 1.02 (at least not on my machine) and one or two of orgolove's specialization mods require a certain patch number (1.04 I THINK, but not sure). LOL he asked me to beta test his newest mod that he hasnt released yet, up til I told him I was only 1.02

I'm using UDK now and didn't realize it required 1.03 (or higher). Needed it to prevent a recurring mistake I was making of confusing my Warden with Leliana. Both redheads, carrying bows, and wearing light armour!
