DarkeWolf
My old copies got moved to disk. I used to have mine on old zip drive floppies, but those corrupted too easy. I was in ecstacy when I got my first burner, lol. I think it was something like... 1 cd equaled 3 of the zips? 2 1/2? Something like that. Theres definitely issues with software and win7. some of them really dont like the 64 bit version, and some others have issues recognizing certain aspects of the hardware under it. then of course, there's the ones that dont want to handle software registration correctly under it.... Heh, it took me FOREVER to upgrade up from win98 se. ALL my software was for that. I probly wouldnt have upgraded from it, if it wasnt for the fact that my hardware was giving out, and no drivers around for it on the newer 'ware. Ok, as a network IT tech (in training) heres a word of advice. Actually, two words. virtual machine. By utilizing a system with at least dual partition, you can utilize whatever OS that you want to, as the core OS, then install a virtual machine on the 2nd partition. You can then load up ANY OS that you want to, on the virt, and the machine still runs off the drivers of the core OS. So.... you could install win7 as your core, and then install your legitimate copy of winXP on the virt. Any progs that have issues with the winblows7 you can install into the virt. The only thing that you have to remember, is that a virt is like a program. When you're done, or when you shut down, you have to save it, or you will lose any changes to it when the system shuts down, or the program is closed. VMs are used by IT for several reasons. 1) OS incompatibility. Its much more cost effective to install a free VM and throw in an OS than it is to add more physical machines. 2) VMs are transferrable. So if an IT tech wanted to, they could load up all the apps into a vm, throw it on the server, and then have any NEW computers added to the network DL and install the VM off the server. Machine is up and running inside of half an hour, rather than the hours it takes to install all the drivers, os, software, etc.2 big issues tho. 1) some VMs limit the hardware in the VM. I dunno about all of them, but I know that MS' VM limits the vid card to 8 megs in the VM environment. 2) Many softwares in a VM can't always access a drive. such as the cd/dvd drive, for games. ON Topic- sorta. Ok, somebody mentioned that Oghren stands close to where leliana sleeps. So does that damned nug. Not to be vulgar but "Nug Humper" is a very popular saying in Orzammar. Hmmmm. :whistling: I still say that Wynn is my worst. I just get waaaaay too tired of her lectures.
Codifer
I must say that I am enjoying both aspects of this thread. The machine I built five years ago was obsolete as soon as I woke it up (my budget was very slim). After months of research I did manage to get components (ASUS, AMD, ATI) that would play well together and the result was reasonably balanced and moderately fast. I had in mind to build an Alfa Romeo... not a Ferrari. I did improve the CPU to a Barton core (2 gig) and added an X850 Graphics Card (both used from Ebay). DAO plays well enough at low graphics and XP pro SP 1 (I know SP 3 is "required" but it did install). It is only forced to its knees when encountering fire, fog and smoke effects that BioWare added as eye candy. I would love to build another but the budget is so much tighter (wife and I bought a house... always something needed). I will improve the hard drives though... the two that I have are tiny compared to what is now available. Most of my back up files are on an external. It was never "state of the art" but when I compare the experience to playing Ultima 3 on a Commodore 128 (K) I am well pleased. I play slowly and savor the experience, hence my two most advanced characters (both Dalish lady rogues) are just now at the Sacred Ashes portion. One has gone through but now has the damned "Schmooples" and Oghren so she is stalled. The other is about to enter the Gauntlet. Rikku (from the Party Picker mod) is an integral part of the team with Lel and Morrigan. Question is; can I go through the Gauntlet, and the questions from the Guardian, with her or must I replace her with Wynne or other "orthodox" NPC? I could do so easily enough with Pocket Plane but I would miss Rikku. Perhaps DarkeWolf might have some experience in this. I am going to search for the Mod that allows some customization of camp NPC placement. If I can get Oghren far enough away (maybe Lothering) then I could deal with it. I hope that it is on Nexus because trying to locate anything on the BioWare site could take some time. Long Live DAO (1.02a).
ell46
I've just started the end battles through the town etc for the umpteenth time and in Oghrens defence I do love the speech he gives you before you set off and quite honestly it doesn't bother me who's bedroll he stands on  or where my dog sleeps just as long as he doesn't keep barking (got the mod for that) Darkwolf - thanks for all that info I will be digesting that later, I didn't realise you could do that, I've got an Archedemon to kill tonight this is one character I might take through to Awakening so I have to finish the game. As for Wynne my very first play through and knowing nothing of what was to come I had some dialogue with Alistair that didn't go well, went to her expecting some sort of comfort only to get the lecture about hurting him etc  I wasn't expecting that, nasty old bag. I realised at the end of the game how many comments are quite obviously warning you of what is to come, but at the time they mean nothing. I went from Win95 to 98 and then WinXP and I hated that so much I reinstalled 98 for another 12 months before finally giving in. Codifer - someone after my own heart, I always feel like that about every new PC DH builds. I must admit though I am tight and if mine keeps going that's fine by me. I've only ever asked him to build a new one when the HD dies, hence the concern about backing up my files We had a Commodore 64  I played "Eye of the Beholder" on that and had to make my own maps on graph paper because they were so complicated I kept getting lost and it came with Battle Chess which was hilarious when you took someones piece depending what piece you used they killed them in different ways like chopping off first one leg then the other. The Gauntlet isn't hard to do you will be fine, who ever is with you, it's mostly puzzles I won't say anymore don't want to spoil it for you. I like to play slowly, go everywhere, do everything, talk to everyone. I worked with a guy who never did things like side quests it was a straight line from start to finish. I don't really go for mods that change stats and party members I like to keep the game pretty much as it was written, but I do like nice looking armour and robes and the stupid things like Bag of Kittens, which disappointed me because I was hoping to have kittens running around the camp, but not a one in site unless Dave (the dog) has eaten them all. If you find your mod you could always get rid of Oghren in the pit at the back of the camp, I'm not sure if that is supposed to be a latrine or what. jaysus
i dont like lelianas voice, sounds like shes kinda mentally challenged, however shes a true romantic and i like that :D oghren, mmh, hes kinda tiny... cute lil fella, since i helped him hook up with that other tiny person i feel like his big brother sten, love him... ok hes a 2hand wielder which kinda blows but hes still too damn cool, i like his dry wit and his stoic ways allistair is a %&$!, pampered brat imo... however hes not totally lost, may be saved and become a man some day -.- ...well i hope so morrigan, you can have my demon child any day honey :D whynn... ts... is she my mother? no! hell no! she sounds that way tho and i dislike that... shale, great tank... nuff said... need her... her bird paranoia is also quite funny zevran... well screw him i suggest... or dont, he may enjoy it dog... best buddy ever... shmooples, kinda cute but its squeeking sounds annoy me to hell... the dog barking was fine but that... really? wtf... spit, roast and feast on it i suggest...just got it to up leliana love for me so i could have a threesome with isabella down in the pearl and now im stuck with shmooples (cool name tho)... once again proof that men's horniness may lead to fatal consequences -.- party: 1 rouge for chests (also quite the damage dealers actually if dual wielding, leiliana, no way i gonna take zevran with me), 1 tank (preferably shale or allistair), 2 healers (one as arcane mage so he can help out on the front and give those close proximity aura buffs) + the dog (possible with a mod)whom i chose for my party kinda depends on who i am, a mage takes shale, morri and leliana, a rouge takes whynn, morri and shale and a warrior takes whynn, morri and leliana i dont kick anyone out of my camp, they might become useful one day... if i dont like em i just dont talk to them hehe... take that! ha! Well, as Zev says, "Have fun slaying the dragon!" Save any chance you get, sometimes that fight can cause crashes from RAM drain.
ell46
oooooo. Well, as Zev says, "Have fun slaying the dragon!" Save any chance you get, sometimes that fight can cause crashes from RAM drain. Thanks  you jinxed me, I must have killed that thing at least 8 times and never had a problem last night it crashed on me when it only had a quarter of it's life bar left and it was too late to start over, so here we go again. Next game I'm going to get that damned nug if it kills me, do I have to be a certain class or can anyone buy one?
DarkeWolf
Oh noooooo. I'm sorry! Didnt mean to throw a hex on ya! Damn, thats depressing, being so close to having that thing dead and have it crash. Really sorry! The only restriction on buying the nug is that Leliana has to mention wanting one as a pet, before you can buy it.

The only restriction on buying the nug is that Leliana has to mention wanting one as a pet, before you can buy it. It's not depressing it's so long since I finished a game to the very end it was all quite new, besides it doesn't take long to kill it. What was depressing was taking the character through to Awakening up to the part where you pick up Anders only to find out you've left the stuff you wanted for him back in camp  so I'm packing up for the night/early morning and when the family have all been, eaten and gone later today I can hunker down and play it again. The eye problem is definitely the GC I made some adjustments to my settings earlier today turned off all the fancy sparkly options and the life bars for enemies etc and low and behold I saw Dave's kaddis warpaint for the very first time  I couldn't stop admiring him, shame they wouldn't let me keep him for Awakening I just hope they haven't had him put down :woot: :woot: I live in hope that in DAO 2 I can get him back. DarkeWolf
Well, my game crashes a lot from the memory leak, so its more of a frustration than anything else, for me. I have to take it REALLY slow, and pause a lot during the last big fight, to make it through it without crashing. Yeah, I made that mistake too, of not taking stuff to equip the characters. DUMMY me, I figured at least Oghren's stuff would transfer over. Guess again, lol.At least my money went with me, so I didnt have any problems buying new gear for them, once I found it on vendors. Tho Maihry (or however her name is spelled) was a bit threadbare for weapons till she died. I'm DEFINITELY glad to hear that you're making progress with the graphics!!! That is GOOD NEWS!! Well, there's a mod in progress that adds some of the old companions to the expansion. Dog being one of them. http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1082Like I said, its still in progress, but it's a start
ell46
I quite like the Maihry character, I love the way she says 'bastards' but not 'apostate' and she seems well enamored of me and is very generous with her approval. I mean +10 for just saying the right thing I never got that in Origins, I was lucky to get +3. One thing I find really puzzling is how on earth does Anders end up loving me??? Apart from gifts which everyone gets and the forced dialogue which is pretty bland, I think they copied over Alistairs approval bar  Time to grab some glory before the family arrive to be fed, it's nice to see them, but I get serious PC withdrawal symptoms
