yungskiz
so i was browsing magazines while getting a tire changed, and there was article about vivos shelters. as a fallout fan, this screamed vault-tec to me- http://www.terravivos.com/index.htm aside from the growing need or growing perception of need for these things i think its actually kind of cool, reminds me of a water tanker or shipping container underground. would anyone be interested in tossing a few of these around the wasteland, both the "survivalist" and "luxury" variants? they wouldnt need to be terribly large, theyre bunkers not mansions - however one or two in the style of the community "vaults" would be cool, like several largeish main areas with the individual container-houses joined around the perimeter thanks for reading
CaughtInTheCrossfire
I like this idea. It wouldn't even be that hard to implement considering that they wouldn't be as big as your average vault. I think it makes sense that Vault-Tec may have had some small competitors in the doomsday-proof bunker business, except maybe unline vault-tec these guys actually wanted to keep people safe. Just what I thought of as I was reading your post.
bben46
I saw another proposed larger scale 'vault' a while back (2 years?) - I posted a link but couldn't find it right away. It seems that the 50s bomb shelter is making a comeback as a vault tec type concept. Having lived through the 50s, I have friends who had bomb shelters either in their back yard or in the basement of their home. All of the bigger buildings in the downtown of the small city I lived in had bomb shelters in the basement that were stocked with supplies ( one was recently discovered still packed with supplies in sealed containers that were mostly still useable in what was the sub basement of a department store back then)
yungskiz
yeah, fallout shelters were a thing once...before my time.....my generation has pre-fabricated homes that sit on concrete pads.... not too many places where like that where i live, there was one in my house, a single room, but the cinder blocks caved on the outside wall, oh the irony haha
Morgwynn
There are allot of companies out there now that build bomb & fallout shelters like Radius Engineering International Inc, Safecastle Shelters, Utah Shelter Systems and they would all fit in the Fallout universe pretty darn well. Some real world bomb shelter, fallout shelter and storm shelter companies for inspiration. http://utahsheltersystems.com/index.phphttp://undergroundshelters.com/http://www.safecastle.com/sheltershome.aspx
Morgwynn
You know all this talking about bunkers and shelters has got me thinking about those old civil defence videos, you know the black and white ones. I'm actually a collector of civil defence stuff, I have 5 Victoreen cdv-715 Geiger Counters along with 5 dosimeters for telling how much anti-radiation drugs to take for the amount of gamma radiation that penetrates your bomb shelter or fallout shelter. I've also stock piled 5 years worth of potassium iodide in case of radiation poisoning. I guess the whole cold war and ww2 civil defence videos remind me of Fallout and I think that is why I love the game so much.
