Chaosblade02
Anyone else thinks that this mage specialization breaks any challenge this game might have? I just made my first Arcane Warrior/Blood mage, and it seems laughably broken. Its just too good. Either of those specializations by themselves seem a little overpowered, but you add both of them together in one, you don't even need to think to play this game or use any strategy. Basically it takes everything a tank lacks and everything a mage lacks and fills in all the gaps.

I had built an AW/BM during my 3rd playthrough of DA:O, but never really tried the AW side, and barely used any BM-specific abilities. I just started DA:A last night (had to be sure the "fix" I found for the 1.03 CtD problem was stable before I'd even try) and selected that PC based on your post just to see what would happen. "Overwhelming through Vigil's Keep" pretty much sums it up. Haven't gone further than that yet, and don't think I will with this PC. Being this powerful turns a great RPG into a just another hack-n-slash. Yes, I know I could amp the Difficulty, and may have to, but first I'll select one of my three other PCs, or start a fresh one if I really want a Mage... Chaosblade02
At level 15+ the AW/BM is so incredibly overpowered you can easily solo nightmare with no trouble at all. You got all the durability/crowd control you could possibly need. Even more durable than a sword/shield tank. They can get armor way higher than any warrior, and still have plenty defense to boot. They also out perform a sword/shield tank in the melee damage and was hitting more with a normal attack than Oghren was with a normal hit with 2h weapons. And you don't even need to go melee if you don't want to, you can switch over to your best staff and play them like a normal mage but heavily armored. With blood magic, the extra fatigue penalty for massive armor and Combat magic basically means nothing. If you plan on casting more than tanking, you may as well switch over to your best staff for a boost to spell power. The only problem I had with my AW/BM soloing NM was in the pre level 10 in the circle tower with that fight with the 5 templars + desire demon, they rode me like a seaside donkey. But that fight is avoidable you can skip it and still finish the mission. Not sure its possible to solo that with a low level mage, there is a reason templars own mages, and you figure out exactly why in that particular fight. But pre level 10 my character wasn't even an AW/BM, was just a normal mage.
Thandal
Well, I re-started DA:A with my DW Warrior Elf last night, and had about the same (too easy) experience as I had with my AW/BM. There is an interesting thread on the Bioware Forums about this subject. See: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/9/index/2382114 for discussion of "...the game suddenly becoming ridiculously easy?" I think I'll do some "armour-on/armour-off" experiments myself!

Yeah I made a DW warrior, and managed to get 2 veshelle axes (forgot how to spell it), you can buy it when you first get to camp, and then the inventory re-rolls. And yes it was some pretty sick DPS, normal attacks were hitting for about as much as a DW rogue does in a backstab with 2 daggers. And you can fill them up with 6 Paralyze runes, even the arch demon or the high dragons aren't immune to paralyze. Talk about pwnage, lol. Way better than a 2h warrior. Whirlwind + DW sweep = LET THE BODIES HIT THE FLOOR. And ive heard some people day the DW tree is useless for a warrior, but one thing they don't realize is instead of daggers, its DWing axes and long swords, which do more damage. I know what you mean. As soon as I figured out that there wasn't an enormous to-hit penalty being applied to the off-hand (à la BG/NWN) I grabbed another *real* weapon and ran straight to Sandal for a little "Enchantment!" Which brings us back to: DA:A is waaaaaay to easy for any PC imported from the epilogue of DA:O. I feel like my Level-23 AW/BM could probably solo the entire expansion. Might have to buff resistence to mental effects a bit, but not much...
