Awakening support

Why do 95% of all mods don't support Awakening, even 1 month after its release? Even new mods doesn't support Awakening. Is Awakening the hated b.astard child nobody wants to play with or am I missing something important here? All of the great armor/skins/younameit mods doesn't support it. Your Awakening char won't have the item set spawned in his/her inv once you reload and even if you create a new DA:O char, it doesn't get all the items. For example: I have 2 DA:O Chars: a lvl2x mage and a lvl17 warrior. I installed a few outstanding armor set mods, which look simply awesome, yeah i know I'll stop the tongue bath here, but the shitty part about the story is: I don't want to play my mage nor the warrior, I want to create a new character in Awakening. While installing a mod and see all new items in your inv once you load the game works perfectly fine for "old" characters, there is something off with new characters. For example: I created a few new (DAO)characters, with different origins and classes, and they only recieve a few items, or to be more accurate 1 armor set at lvl1. You might say: wtf you want? You are lvl1! But the point is, I don't want to play DA:O. I created a new char in DA:O because it's the only way to get those new shiny items and import them into Awakening, a far better version of DA if you seek fast and challenging fights (just my opinion).

So, to come to an end here: Am I that thick that I overlook something or is it a fact, that most mods don't give a poo about Awakening and therfor don't bother to support it? :(

Is there a work around maybe?

- creating a new char and importing it to DA:A doesn't work

- using console to run scrips doesn't work for DA:A either (DA:O it works fine)

greets

Its not that most mods don't give a "poo" about Awakening. Its that we still don't have the resources to Awakening. We're limited in what we can do until Bioware's Dragon Age team decides to release an update to the toolset giving us access to the resources for Awakening. What few awakening capable mods that have been released have been made by groping through the dark grasping onto what they can.

hm, ok that's a good argument. Dang...

I hereby announce my bloody crusade to Canada. Where once I arrive shall massacre every single Bioware employe who is responsible for "THIS"!

However, thanks for the fast answer and sorry for any inconvenience caused. :ermm:

If you kill them all then are you going to know what resources we need? Are you going to be able to give us future expansions and games in the DA universe? -smacks Gaoxin's hand- Bad Gaoxin! Bad! Put down the Bioware employee!

No worries. It gets asked enough that I pretty much have it setup as a form letter by now.

First off, if I come off as being angry....I'm sorry. Its not directed at you, or anybody here. Its more at the designers, and the way they implemented certain things with the expansion, for causing us so many issues.

One of the biggest issues is DAA itself. 1) it has a block list.

the game designers had an issue where they added new tints to previously used armors and weapons. They apparently were not allowed to use the same method for doing this, that the mod community uses, and therefor had bugs with it. The items wouldnt display properly and turned out looking like something they werent supposed to, or ended up looking like they were made of white or grey plastic.

To fix this, they did something incredibly STUPID. They took the path of "Well, since we cant fix this, we'll just BLOCK those other versions of the items from showing up in Awakening".

The problem is...the way that they coded it, it doesnt JUST block them from the expansion, it blocks them GLOBALLY, meaning that they won't work in DAO either! Another STUPID mistake on their part. And one that WE could PROBABLY fix very easily, IF we could access the proper files. Which so far... we can't.

Its a list of meshes, names, tints, and probly other stuff that I'm not aware of.... that gets blocked. This script runs BEFORE the addins/mods/overrides do, and this will prevent said things from loading up into the game. And right now we dont know how, and cant access the necessary files, to fix/bypass it.

Characters that already have the items in question are ok. because they already have those items stored in their savegame info. Its just when it comes to respawning those blocked items/tints or the first spawn (new character) after having the patch 1.03 installed that you end up with the issue. Because on that first load, thats when they get blocked.

Will note that when you try to bring them over to DAA that counts as the first spawn, as it is the first time that the expansion would be told to create the items.

But for the other kinds of mods, it pretty much just ends up being what we can access to modify, and what we can't.

For scripts, some do. Others have been changed, so that they run off a different name. http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/code/984881.html <- list of daa console commands.

*pats Darkewolf on the back* Breath my friend, breath. :D

So, when are we going to storm Bioware and get the DAA resources so that we can start modding it too? :ninja:

*breathes in thru the nose, out thru the mouth* hahaha.

Thats an interesting proposition

While we're at it, lets march on EAgames and surgically remove the stick that is up their collective ass. I'm willing to lay money that some of these problems wouldnt exist, if they had just let bioware do things their own way.

One of the most annoying things that I have found, is that a lot of these core files which might help in solving the problem.... are compressed into database file formats. I have YET to be able to find a program that can extract these files. even one or two of the progs that I did find, came up with errors trying to do so. So by my GUESS, they are not only highly uncommon file types, they are most likely either encrypted, or passworded, to boot. :verymad:
