yakboy
Hi there Really hope someone can help as this is driving me crazy. I'm playing oblivion on a brand spanking new entry level system(AMD Phenom ii 545, 4gb RAM and a Radeon HD 4850 graphics card) and the game has been running smoothly for 2 weeks. Suddenly, during a trip into the Oblivion gate north of Anvil the game crashed to a black screen with green dots then to the BSOD. Now the game crashes constantly 4 ways, as prev described, to a black screen with large red squares, frozen screen or a bright whitish rainbow graphics explosion and all followed by the BSOD. I have no mods installed, only official and unofficial patches, have now uninstalled twice and wiped all saves, deleted every file i could find. Even ran a registry clean up in desperation. As you can probably tell i'm an incompetent noob and don't know an ini file from an outi file so any help will be met with much relieved weeping and offers of marriage to my least favourite daughter. bben46
What is the rating on your power supply? Many big name ready made systems such as Dell, HP etc use a cheap power supply that is sufficient for word processing or watching tube movies. But balk when put up against a power hungry game like Oblivion. Also, check your video card temperature. Many times the type of video anomalies you are seeing are caused when a Video card is failing or overheating. Possibly caused by a weak power supply or lack of proper air flow. yakboy
The power supply is OCZ 500w stealthxstream, how would i find rating? Also, where can I check video card temp? Don't know if this makes a difference but my wife is playing sims 3 on max settings and hasn't had any problems. Thanks for reply bben.
yakboy
Woo hoo!(hopefully) have disabled itunes and bullguard security and moved pc from snug wall position to open facing position on top of desk. Thanks bben!!!! Airflow seems to have been the problem as game not crashed yet.
