razorpony
Let me preface this by saying that I use windows XP... I don't know anything about Vista or Win7, sorry. Let me also say that I'm not claiming that this is a miracle cure-all, only that it fixed my game, and with the number of "help, my game keeps crashing" posts I thought I'd post this for others to try if they haven't already. For me, I was experiencing crashes on save/load mostly. If I'd load a save game, then change my mind and immediately load another, CTD. There were also cases of crashing when opening a container, inventory, or loading a new cell. I was also getting frequent messages about "pure virtual function calls" . After looking this up online I found out it was in regards to visual C++ and I should update my C++ package to the 2010 version. I did, and since then NO more crashes. I can load 5 different saves in a row then play for 3 hours straight. It's blissful. Hopefully it will work for others. C++ isn't one of those apps I had ever thought about upgradigng (and had in fact forgotten it was even installed in the first place). Steps: 1- Go HERE and download the C++ 2010 redistributable. 2- In Windows XP under start/settings/control panel/add remove applications, uninstall C++ 2008 (or any older version) 3 Install the new C++ 2010 redistributable package and reboot. 4- (hopefully) Enjoy a smoother and more crash-free Oblivion experience. -Razorpony
