Question about creating custom items

How do you create custom items and make them so they simply appear in every character's inventory? Is there tutorial somewhere?

 

Also, is it possible to edit items that are already in the game? I've wanted to make some serious changes to the Cousland family sword & shield because, well, both of them suck.

You can change an item that appears in the game by editing the UTI file for that item. It will not however, affect an item that has already been spawned. So if the item has already been loaded up into a game, it will only show up modified in a new game.

You can however, use the Winter Forge- http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=122 to mod out their stats/materials in game.

OH! I also forgot to mention, that if you want to, you can create a lookalike for those items, if you want more than one of your characters in the party to have them.

First you would click on the forge and enter in a custom name.

It would be something like....

The {enter key}

Family {enter key}

Sword {enter key}

END {enter key}

 

then talk to the elf, and create a new weapon... sword... longsword... Warden Sword.

Choose the material to make it from, add whatever properties (bonuses) to it that you like, then craft item.

 

For a shield, you'd have to do some work there at the forge, then talk to the elf.

 

Click on the barrel behind the elf, and change the options so that you are using the 4.2 (or whatever version of the mod that you've got) options. Then click on the forge.

of

Highever

END (Or whatever that shield's name is, lol, sorry, just woke up)

Craft an item... shield. Kite Shield. (Metal shields have better stats than wood). (Tower shields are the squarish shields).

then go into the option for extras. (Not sure what thats labled on the new version, I have an older version of the mod) and choose to add a crest to it.

Then sort thru the list, and choose the Cousland crest.

 

Pick which material you want to use, and then craft the item. Put the item back in the forge, then talk to the elf. (after clicking on the barrel to change it back to dialog options.) And add whatever bonuses that you want.

 

Also, while its a royal pain trying to track down all those scrolls to use in the forge, the forge itself, can be highly addictive once you get the hang of it. Some of us that use it can sit for hours, just modding out gears in game :wink:
