Till_Eulenspiegel
I disabled music in the oblivion.ini file and the game hasn't crashed on me since. Before, it crashed at least 4 or 5 times per hour for no consistant reason. This alone was just an annoyance, but what really got me was that the game upon re-entry took at least three tries to load a game, because it kept crashing half way through the load. I eventually found that it always crashed whenever I killed something outdoors, and sometimes when I left a building. I found that if I sneak-attacked a creature, killing it before it saw me, the game would not crash. I checked to make sure none of the mods I have were conflicting; I messed around with the video card and whatnot. I finally concluded that either oblivion or my sound card was having trouble switching from the battle music back to the normal music, and from interior to exterior music. Now it does not crash outdoors, indoors, in transition, or while loading games. I have a turtle beach santa cruz sound card. I think the newest set of drivers for it is 4 years old, so that might have something to do with it.

This might allow you to enjoy the music...
odark
Another trick that may work would be to goto:StartSettingsControl PanelSound and Audio Devices(Under Speaker Settings) - Advanced(Under Performance Tab) Hardware Acceleration, set to none.
lihapall
I have a old graphics-card (Radeon 9600Pro 256MB). And the game crashes all the time. ut not in lowest settings though. And a small tip is that one activates the "Distant objects"-buildings - but inactivates trees. I haven't had any crashes since. I have done the music-inactivation as well since i have a very very old soundcard as well :)

Yeah, i find that 90% of my game crashes are because of that. Farcry being the game i discovered how to do that
