Being Friend With A Guard: Avoiding The Fine

Well I was playing my mage again, who accidently got to enthousiastic with his staff. I shot this guy in his house. A few seconds later a guard comes running to me. Speaking mode, face zooms in. While I expected him to say: "Stop right there criminal scum!" he said something else: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b120/iam...creenShot16.jpg (no he didn't say that url, you have to click on it :P) For those who can't read it (small screenshot, should've made it JPG ;) ) it says: "Looks like you are in some trouble. Since we are friends, don't worry. I'll look the other way and take care of that fine for you."

Maybe it is because I completed the Main Quest, which makes everyone like you a bit more, but I think it always works as long as the guard's disposition (how much it likes me) is high enough. I don't know how high it has to be, but this guard had 100. So after he talked to me, the bounty was gone. It's a bit hard to get a guard's disposition up to 100, even with bribes, and then there is still the chance a different not so nice guard runs to you. So I guess the best chance you have is after completing the Main Quest. Or resisting arrest, cast a strong charm spell and surrender... :)

I also noticed it when I was having a normal conversation with a guard. Often when i ended it, he would say (almost whispering) "if you ever run into trouble, come find me". Never thought it really worked though :)

I have a friend who is ambitious with his modding ideas, and it is this exact reason I tell him to hold off. This game still surprises me with little tricks here and there.

!!!SPOILER!!!

Kind of like that thoronir sells lockpicks mod, there is a guy on the outer wall who sells picks and poisons already! Just goto the main IC city bridge, hang a right go behind the stables and stick to the wall of the talos district and bam there he is.

!!!END SPOILER!!!

Smart. That's a nice touch in a game brimming with them, cheers for bringing that to our attention Povuholo :)

And odark, not to be a vigilante, but that sort of thing should be in Spoilers, or at least have a spoiler warning on it. And yeah, that guy surprised me too as I made a circituous (curse my poor spelling) route around the city.

Imagine having all the guards as your friend... You could go kill everyone in town (except the guards :P) and get away with it! Finally speechcraft is VERY useful, instead of a little.

Lol, the ability to talk you way out of any situation, including the one in which you are standing on a hill made of corpses: "Who, me officer? Certainly not, they were like this when I got here" ;D

I just found out, the disposition has to be 90 at least for him to let you go. This ofcourse doesn't count if the crime was attacking that guard :P

Not true!

I've swung Goldbrand at a guard before, and then that same guard gave me the "looks like you are in some trouble" bit. Of course, having The Deceiver's Finery, the Masque of Clavicus Vile, and the dragon statue blessing probably helped in that regard -- and actually killing him would have changed the dramatically situation, obviously.

I think it's a high personality trait that will get the guards to do that, I remember after I funked up my first ever char that I maxed all my attributes out and was tinkering around that I found that out.

Funny to cut someone down in the middle of the street and have the guard say "Since we're friends I'll just take care of that fine for you" or when you steal something and they see you "I didn't see anything!" Tis great stuff
