Armour Mods

Can anyone point me in the direction of any armour mods out there that give nice new skins but don't come attached with overpowered bonuses? Basically I'm looking for replacement textures or skins but with bonuses more compatible with whats already in the game?

Any pointers much appreciated :)

well, to be honest there is a LOT of really nice work that has been done with armors, so it would take too long for me to research and list them all. Not to mention that "nice looking" is in the eye of the beholder

my recommendation here is if you dont like the way that an armor is set up after installing the mod, is to use the Winter Forge to correct anything about it's stats/mats that you dont like about it, in game. With this mod all you would need to do is A) remove all the bonuses from the item, and then replace them with ones that you would prefer. Or B) chose to replace the material of the item with a higher/lesser tier material.

Now, the winter forge does take a little bit of tinkering with, to get used to how it works, and does have a bit of a learning curve. However, once you get used to it, it's a REALLY fun mod to play around with, and can save you a LOT of time that would have been spent tinkering around in toolset, otherwise. LOL that, and tinkering around with new items can be a bit addictive!

Or- you can open up the files from the mod themselves, by extracting them from their compressed folders (change filename from .dazip to .zip and then choose to extract to new folder) or just the final part of that if they are .rar .zip .7z etc (tho you'll need 7zip to open 7z files) drag the .erf files into toolset, then click on the .UTI files for the item, and choose EXPORT. Once you've extracted/exported the UTI file you can then modify it as you choose.

Personally, I prefer the forge, as it lets me see more of what it's going to be like in game.

Slightly off-topic... Is the forge really that great? Its always on my list of mods to check out, but for some reason I never do.

I absolutely love the forge, aside from a few points. One of them is having to spend 3 skill points to be able to read the scrolls to use some of the forge's abilities. Easily remedied with console commands,or my favorite beguiler.

another... is having to track down the scrolls from all over heck and back in the game.

Aside from some of the more complex operations, such as assigning new meshes, or tints to an item, or creating a script, it can do a LOT of what the user would otherwise have to use the toolset. You can create a base model of say.... sten's sword. You can assign it to have runes or not, assign it to be part of an item set, apply whatever base material you want to use, or choose to use a colored material, such as having a dragonbone sword that looks like it's made of silverite, You can assign on hit props such as knockback, stun, etc. bonus properties (props) detrimental props such as say.... -5 str. you can assign vfx props, such as messy kill. Or say that you want to have a shield that has the warden crest on it, you can make one with that, or a buttload of other crests. (tho the warden crests are blue/white as the game originally made them. Phaenen chose not to use the golden gryphon crest that is used on the Commander armor).

Its a really great mod, I fully recommend checking it out.

I have to second that. The winter forge allows a level of creation that the bioware team hinted they were going to add, then copped out with some pot, poison and trap making. Darkewolf is right, the learning curve can be really steep at times, but with a few looks to the site of it's creator, you can skip finding a lot of scrolls, and with the beguiler mod, your not going to lose out on points better spent elsewhere. It allows for weapon and armor retinting, though I have never tried to retint an armor or weapon that was already special to begin with, so other than changing a few enchantments, and base metal type, I would advise a save before testing it. Personally I have never used weapon and armor mods since I found winter forge, preferring to make my own armor and weapon sets then sticking to them for the rest of the game, maybe change the look if I get bored of one.

I have tested the enamelled metals on stuff that use special textures, or tints. Warden Commander set, from Warden's keep. Its originally red steel (No effin clue WHY....) but I changed it to dragonbone. The areas that were affected by this were the shoulder pauldrons and the bell area of the gauntlets. They turned dragonbone color. (that I noticed, basically I forgot to check the boots very thuroughly)

I got grossed out by how that looked, and decided to try it with silver enamelled dragon bone, and it turned out nicely.
