Dawnguard DLC gripes and questions

I am on my second full playthrough of skyrim since jan 2012 yeah my second playthrough and the first time there was no DLCs no dawnguard or dragonborn or hearthfire and I got bored with skyrim after doing everything... this spurred me into modding around that time and so for YEARS now I have been modding the game but never played through the game again so I set out to do that recently maybe early last month. I have some npc mods running on dawnguard characters like serana changed her hair and switched her to the vampire farm clothes outfit so I could give her that sexy lustmord mod armor:-)

 

Everything was going good and when I met her mother I immediately noticed her hair was totally different than other npc hair and thought, hey where is there a mod that allows the player to choose these dawnguard DLC and other DLC hairs during character creation? so far haven't found it.

 

I am currently at the near end of the dawnguard quest we are about to go stomp the stuffin out of harkon everyone is all revved up I just organized my inventory and dumped all the inner veil sanctum stuff into that box in the back of the fort dawnguard hallway and then I thought to check on some unique items that I suddenly remembered... so I checked for something called reflecting shield or auriels shield and sure enough I TOTALLY MISSED IT back at annoyingly mountainous veil sanctum! So I got all dressed up in that grumpy snow elf's armor and ITS GO TIME but no shield:-( those paragon gems I kept finding them on these new kind of trolls and didn't know what to do with them, thought they were some new crafting material for ancient falmer armor but NOPE they were the keys to things like the shield and leveled loot and so on. I really hated traversing that quest with all the dam caves and mountains up until I got to the ice caves and falmer huts I was taking out the falmer trash like a pro with my dawnguard heavy armor and enhanced dwarven crossbow. Those cool kill cams of that crossbow in action kind of make up for the huge amount of time I wasted in the soul cairn looking for all those dam notes and other emo crap and getting CTD because of lightning bugs that someone around here fixed recently see: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/21699/? GAWD I hate the soul cairn! That fix works great though.

 

Why are there not quest markers for those paragon gems AFTER you find them? Why are there not quest markers for those dam notes in the soul cairn? I REALLY HATE spending time in the soul cairn it is like emo land lol with all those depressed souls having their emo pitty parties all over the place and the grand emo herself guest starring grand emo dragon just feels like a total waste of time. I hate knowing I have to go through there every time I play through the game again:-( Also is there a mod that integrates ALL the three DLC additional hairs into the game for character creation?

 

 

Some tips for anyone that wants a good playthrough and looking for some elven replacer stuff, use the sword from the terra sword mod as your elven sword and great sword replacers. Thats what I did and I don't mind using an elven sword now even though I play as a nord that terra sword is just really good as an elven sword replacer. I hope the modder that made it will retexture the elven armor and weapons someday soon:-)

 

When I get done with my playthrough I might try modding the dawnguard armors the default textures are awful and maybe try retexing some armors again like steel plate and elven. I try to kill as many thalmor as I can and hate wearing their armor but after getting into dawnguard the elven armor doesn't seem so bad it just needs a good retex.

Wow man, I just finished DG, and don't know if I noticed any of the gems. I'm pretty sure I didn't pick up Auriel's Shield either. Ugh, gonna have to go back sometime. Fortunately, I never really use a shield on this character though :)

 

I agree with you on the Soul Cairn too. I feel like I spent way too much time in there. I think it was the main reason that I stopped playing Skyrim for several months too. I believe I finished everything there except for needing one more page, but not sure I can stand going back.
