Foffy123
So I haven't played oblivion for a long time because I haven't had a good enough computer for it. During christmas I got a new computer, but I couldn't find my oblivion disc. Yesterday, I bought a new copy of oblivion GotY and all of the official plugins.I quickly installed some mods that I think look good, installed BOSS, OBMM, and OBSE. All current as of yesterday. Here are my specs: Windows 7 Home Premium 64Intel Quad Core 2 Q8300 2.5 GHz8 GB RAMNVIDIA GeForce GT 220 (Upgrading soon to a GTS 250)Acer H233H 1920x1080 Here's my load order as well. When I hit exit game, it crashes instead of actually exiting. What I mean by that is after I hit exit game, the game minimizes and pulls up a crash screen (Oblivion has to close bla bla) and I have to hit cancel to exit the game. 2. When I try to lower my graphics settings by turning off HDR and lowering shadows, I close Oblivion (the crash screen pops up as said above) and then start it back up again. The settings aren't saved. This happens no matter what and I seem to be unable to change the game's graphics settings. 3. When I try to disable the Unique Landscapes OMOD/.esp files, the game refuses to start. OBSE pops up, then the screen makes the maximize animation, then nothing. This happens even if I delete the OMOD completely and remove it from OBMM. If I reinstall Unique Landscapes, it works perfectly. So, does anyone have any suggestions?
Maigrets
1. When I hit exit game, it crashes instead of actually exiting. What I mean by that is after I hit exit game, the game minimizes and pulls up a crash screen (Oblivion has to close bla bla) and I have to hit cancel to exit the game. That's a common problem when using mods and can even happen with the vanilla game. Usually it's not a problem, but if it bothers you there are other mods/utilities that can help with it. I don't use any of them since my heavily modded game doesn't crash and I can't remember the names, but you could check out the utilities section at Tesnexus. I think one is called Crash Prevention System or something similar. 2. When I try to lower my graphics settings by turning off HDR and lowering shadows, I close Oblivion (the crash screen pops up as said above) and then start it back up again. The settings aren't saved. This happens no matter what and I seem to be unable to change the game's graphics settings. When in game bring up the console with the tilde key (just beneath Esc), type "saveini" without the quotes and press Enter. This will save any changes made to the graphics and other options. This is because every little thing you do in the game is recorded in your saves. especially important are mods like the UL series where you're saving in a location that has been altered to a large degree. The game can't find the information it needs in the save and so won't start. With the UL mods installed I suggest you go to a location in game that hasn't been modified at all, by any mod, and save. The testinghall would be a good idea.Type "coc testinghall" again without the quotes and you'll be taken to the games testing area. Save a couple of times so the saves are clear of mod location data, then try to remove the mods again. To leave the testing area find the door called Hawkhaven in the center and exit. You can fast travel anywhere from there. Keep in mind you may not be able to successfully remove the dependency because the data is inherent in the save game and with location altering mods this is especially so. If you try to load a save where you are actually in an altered location, as you've discovered, the game will crash. With mods that add items though, like armour or weapons for example, in most cases it won't affect your saves when the mod is removed. I don't use any of the UL series as I doubt my system would handle them with it's current mod load, though I'd like to, but is there anything in their Readme's or the comments pages about these issues? Your first two answers are excellent thank you very much. However, with the third answer, I think you miss the point. I can't even get to the main menu. The game won't even start. The incompatible saves is something I know about, and thank you for your solution for that in case I run into that problem in the future.Do you have any idea why it wouldn't start at all without UL? Maigrets
Do you have any idea why it wouldn't start at all without UL? When you disable or uninstall the UL mods are you also removing or disabling the Better Cities UL Compatibility Patches? Those patches rely on the actual UL mods to work and will shut your game down before it starts as you describe, due to missing Master files which are the full UL mods. Otherwise I can't see any reason why it's happening according to your BOSS log.
