JBtextures v2.1 - PROBLEM WITH CORRUPT TEXTURES IN DENERIM

very interesting bruno, the only thing i can imagine the temp folder associating itself with DOA..is the the ms sql server using it as a "temporary" vessel for data flow/transactions...vista has a superior hierchy than xp which i am somewhat familiar with but certainly not seasoned..they may know stuff i cant even scratch the surface of, nothing is worse than..mystery

just dont let them "you may want to contact your hardware manufacturer" cause then you know it's a complete decoy pretending to analyze the issue and finding nothing wrong on their end, aside from a series of checksum tests and driver versions etc...my ignorance doesnt allow me to see what vital diagnostics pertinent to the memory management crashes they will get from that

well perhaps they want to make sure basic "requirements" are as they should be before helping you further in depth, or perhaps the OS handles the engine differently, or the engine handles itself different based on OS, well yeah obviously..BAH "experienced amateur" such as myself often makes it sound like i know what im saying while in fact im clueless

alllrighty lets not make a sequel to the mega-rant Silence yourself veteran gamer let us know what happens Bruno, for the sake of knowledge, please :]

Hello,

great news: The customer service of Bioware be praised - in my case it´s possible to solve this problem. Here is the solution:

1) Make a copy of the save games (Character folder).

2) Uninstall Dragon Age Origins completely.

3) Install the game again.

4) Patch it with patch v1.03.

5) Start the Dragon Age Update Service directly in Vista services.

6) Start Dragon Age and download all purchased or free content.

7) If it´s done - close the game.

8) Install Awakening (only if you are playing this addon).

9) Use the stable version of DAModder v2.1.2 and DOA-Modmanager v1.9d.

10) Make a brandnew installation of JBtextures.

11) Install all your other mods.

Finished - that´s all. :whistling: Well, what can I say. I do not know exactly why, but it seems so that it have something to do with the load order of the individual installations. Remember: Many of us have a similar modding-problem even in Oblivion. If anyone has the same anger like me - try these steps! I would appreciate your feedback of course very much.

Many greetings to you all and many thanks for your friendly advice

Bruno

I would argue a couple of points that they made. The first being to patch to 1.03

They (as company representatives) dont consider adding mods to the game. 1.03 breaks mods. its a proven fact both on here, and on their social.bioware site. So unless you are planning on adding awakening, I wouldnt let the game autopatch. I'd recommend manually patching to 1.02 by finding it on google, downloading it, and installing it manually.

But, hopefully the rest of what they've told you is good, and gets you running correctly!

Dear DarkeWolf,

unfortunately I was too hasty and optimistic. I was happy too early and must revise everything, because after about two hours playing time the trouble started again. I told BioWare that their counseling was not working permanently. I have only find out that the problem occurs less often and less severely, if I use only the JBtextures Patch No.1 and when I shun all VHIGH textures like the devil avoids the holy water. It's maddening and hair ruffle, because now I am totally helpless. Nevertheless, I found out an interesting detail: If I have installed VHIGH ARMOR the game crashes in Denerim very often and this part of the mod is definitely the cause of the changing textures of many NPC´s and objects! Maybe this information helps someone further.

People, please let me know if you have any good solution. I do not know why reative24 also does not answer my questions. Unfortunately this is not just my problem.

My best regards

Bruno

Hello Folks,

here is the actual answer from Bioware:

Thank you for writing back to us.

We will pass the information you have provided of mod JBtextures v2.1 to the development team. Regretfully we do not have information on if or when a fix will be put in place. They are however collecting data from the community and are examining solutions if they determine enough customers have the problem and the problem is technically addressable with a patch, or if a work around is possible.

The development thread on this issue is "http://social.bioware.com/forum/index"

Certainly development will use the information gathered to ensure that this problem does not occur in future releases, however it is impossible to guarantee that this will ever be fixed in the current version. If you are not interested in tracking this issue on the message board, please know that you will automatically be notified if an official solution to this problem in the form of a work around or patch is discovered.

In the mean time, I am notifying my supervisor that you have an unresolved problem that we have no fix for. We at EA customer service make every attempt to resolve each issue, but sometimes a resolution is simply not possible due to problems beyond our control.

Secondly , I would like to inform you that the codes are of one time time use but the contents and game gets entitled to your account forever .so, you can download it through your online account. or if you feel can keep a backup on disk for the game.

If you still have any doubts, feel free to reply back.

Thank you,

-Greg

I guess that's about the best that they can do. I mean, they're not really in business to support other people's work. BUT... at least they RESPONDED. Thats a lot more than others are getting with some of the tech issues.

"Ok, you can't play such and such or such and such is breaking your game. Want to take a survey?"

Hello,

well, it seems so that I must accept this unsolved problem at the moment. I have installed the mod, but I don´t use the part VHIGH ARMORS. It works. Maybe someone will find a good solution or reative24 create an update. We will see.

Greetings

Bruno

Try putting in a request with the creator to reduce the resolution of those particular textures. I'm still of the opinion that it's too high rez and with the additional strain that this game puts on a computer, that its a combined effect.

Also have to say i'm having the same problem, much to my irritation, i wish i could lock down just which file/s out of the texture sets played with Denerim then i can leave them out and install the rest.....

I don't suppose anyone has any ideas or has seen a patch out in the wild?

*Edit @ DarkeWolf

I would normally agree with you Darke since i was originally running it on my mini-rig so i have ported my install over to my big gaming/competition rig as a test and i have re-installed all the mods so i am now running it on ATI 10.10 drivers on an I7 based system clocked @ 3.61Ghz with 2x 4870x2 Graphics cards with 2gb of texture ram a piece, 6gb of system ram and windows 7 x64, and i'm STILL getting the problem...

I don't think system resources are the issue anymore ;)

Okay, now for the bad news. I spent a few hours trying to isolate the files in the vhigh armor mod pack causing Denerim to crash, but after finding at least 15 files (and loading the game every time for each file to test) I gave up as I still have over 100 files to test and it would take a dozen hours or so to test. After all of that, we may find we are missing so many of the textures that it was a waste of time anyway. My conclusion is, remove the vhigh armor mod when we visit Denerim, put it back in when we are done. Time to play! I love the high res armor textures on a hot team of 4 females, it is so drool worthy, can't play any other way!

P.S. The files I found that crashed it, before I stopped testing:

  • 3 years later...

I have just begun another play-through after years away, and am amazed a the great number of quality mods out there (mostly here). I was really enjoying the game until I hit the Denerim Marketplace after clearing out the nasties in Redcliffe, and the game started crashing. I couldn't even load any saves.

So I searched around for some help, and most of the advice, excellent though it was, involved some fairly heavy lifting, file-wise.

Being fundamentally lazy, I tried a few variations to get the Marketplace to load, but with no success. Whenever i was in the Marketplace for long, the game would crash on me.

I started getting some luck when I deactivated all the buffs my characters had, but still got crashes.

I decided to make Camp outside of Denerim and make short one person forays into the place to get the quests, and supplies.

I'd have my Warden go from camp to the Marketplace and first of all got the Genitivi part done, then I went back to Camp and saved.

That worked so well that I went back for the Chantry and Mage Collective quests next, and then saved back in Camp.

It took a while, but I finally got all the stuff done that I could at this point in the game.

When I went about doing the quests, I just stayed in the very beginning of the Marketplace, and travelled from there.

I didn' get any crashes after that, and was able to go on to the next phase, mmmmm, Andratse's Urn.

Thanks
