Modeling advice

to all those modders who create custom models ino which is a better program?

 

3dsMax or blender?

 

trying which one is easier to import, rig etc.

Well, I'm really not the person to answer this, because I really know almost nothing about using 3d modeling progs. But.... since nobody else is helping you out, I'll throw in what little I know.

 

3dsmax is more advanced. it has more features, and more compatibility. However, it also has a steeper learning curve, and a BIG, FAT, pricetag.

Blender is much more widely used in the non-professional communities, as its FREE. And it has less of a learning curve to learn how to use it. In comparison to 3dsmax.

Its considered a better program to start out with, if you're just getting started in 3d modeling.

 

I do however, know that the import/export scripts to handle the DAO/DAA formats is better, in 3dsmax. The blenderscripts are pretty much still considered "beta". Because it doesnt like handling rigging and bones for the dao format.

 

Beyond that, as far as how to use either of them, the only thing that I can really tell you is to search for tutorials.

Its always good to see people become regulars of the DA section. Its down right dead here sometimes and I honestly don't like the social site. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's just something about it that puts me off. :mellow:

Indeed. I don't like bioware's site either. Its nothing to do with it's members, I have found some of them very helpful and friendly. I dont like the way that their mods section is put together. I REALLY dont like how you have to register for that, need a membership in such and such group to look at this, have to register your codes for this and that, and stuff. It just seems.... too restrictive, for my tastes.

Darn good source of information tho, when I can muster up the effort to visit there (which I should do much more often, but I don't).

i wont go into details, ill just say the social abomination site really isnt for me, most places really arent for me. to be honest dude im surprised ive lasted as long as i have here without my forhead lining up in someones crosshairs, im kinda wacky i understand..but we cant help who we are. there's always an issue eventually, usually they start off subtle and i simply slip out the back door when i foresee possible escalation, very perceptive even the slightest hint, or heavy breath and i feel it...poof ninja vanish

 

i cant deal with peoples emotional issues thats for parents and spouses, i enjoy being happy thank you very much ill leave you to your manic depression ;]

 

ive been around since the days my bro bought the commodore 64, which came ou the year i was born, but always found lurking was the way to go, the past few years i said eh, f it let's see if i can blend in normally..definitely not but so far so good here

 

what i really find appealing about this place is first the moderators seem to be on top of things, second i havent read the rules i never do but it seems common sense works just fine, third its kind of a 'high' to read intelligent people conversatin with eachother as my physical and otherwise "cyber" environment always seems to be majorly populated by "lolz needz moar thiz or thatz im zo stupidz", one of my best friends is identical to oghren who is probably my favorite character in this game haha, dont know any fellow gamers so shootin the shiz here is my only outlet to get some gaming convo of interest in

 

another funny thing, says i registered in 06, but up until my first posts here i didnt evn know this place was a forum hahah, i must have signed up years ago to download stuff, i think last month i clicked on a little blue N on the top corner of the page and was like "errr? a forum!?" and here i am dude, my little safe house :p
