AdmiralSpiffy
I recently began playing Fallout 3 with mods and have encountered an issue. When attempting to leave Rivet City, the game crashes to desktop after the the load screen passes. This also occurs when trying to leave any other location (used console to warp to a random metro tunnel and got the same result.) When I first walked up to Rivet City, the textures on some of the walls of the boat were flickering, and there was a large gray square occupying the path towards the alcove where the doors to the marketplace and stairway reside. Some research told me that I should download FO3Edit and create a "merged patch", but the program does not seem to be functioning properly. I get this error in the "Messages" tab. [00:08] Background Loader: Fatal: <Exception: "Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch.esm" requires master "Fallout3.esm" to be loaded before it.> Here is a list of my current mods: http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/1903/modsr.png Can anyone please help me resolve this issue? EDIT: It seems that the Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch for Broken Steel was the issue. I've fixed it.
elustran
Your load-order looks off - fixing that might help any potential problems you encounter in the future. Also, I've been experiencing the same issue. I don't have the unofficial patch installed, and I experienced the issue with both a vanilla game and with FOOK and other mods installed. AdmiralSpiffy
How do I adjust the load order?
elustran
Just re-arrange the order in which your mods appear in FOMM by clicking and dragging.
BossDweebe
All esm's at the top. Then esp's - Fallout 3 esm at top followed by unofficial patch esm. Next the esm's for the DLC's, followed by esm's from some mods. Then the patch esp's. Beyond this, the arrangement of the esp's has to do with what they change, and what may come latter thatmay want to change the same thing. There are instances where more than one mod interacts with something in the game. In this case the mod that makesthe change that you want to prevail should come below the other mods that may make a change to that object. This is one reason the patches come in early as they make many cosmetic changes that can be overwritten by another mod later without any issues (generally). Weather changes usually are best at the end of the list, and some script mods (good ol' Duke Patrick from Oblivion). Large mods that make many changes are, of course, going to create issues with mods that do similar things differently. If a large mod overwrites the small mod then the small mod should be removed, or possibly placed below the large mod, so it takes precedence over the large one. In which case you may, or may not, get crashes. Depending on how many variables there are.

The Autosave kicks in whenever you transit a doorway, and this may be your problem (or part of it). When I did this, my crash rate was reduced by a heckuva lot. nisen
to the original question how to get your load order sorted, recommend installing BOSS for fallout3 It works exactly like it does for Oblivion but you install it to the Fallout3 data folder so it only looks for Fallout3 mods Ive also had a ton of problems with crashing entering/exiting new cells and dont think load orders the main culprit, but cant live without autosaves, and usually find its its a particular mod or the order a mod was installed. Havent learnt to fix it with Fo3edit but assume that can find the conflicts.
