Oscar Sheila
Hi there, I'm new to Blender, and I have a lot of reading to do on how to use it properly. So please bear with me. I want to open up an item in Blender from Oblivion, so that I can fiddle with it and experiment on the controls and commands. I have downloaded everything I need to:Blender 2.49bPython 2.6.2PyFFI 2.1.4NifscopeBlender Nif scriptsGimpBSA Commander Using BSA Commander I have unpacked a Oblivion meshes .bsa file, then used Nifscope to open up a pair of Boots for example. That works fine, but I want to open it up with Blender. How do I go about doing this? Also I don't understand why some files for example helmet.nif and helmet.egm. Not all items seem to have two file types either Thanks

Oscar Sheila
Great thanks for that, I am getting there slowly, there is certainly alot to learn using all this software. I have made an item that I want to test, my next problem is how to get it into the game, so that I can load it into the construction set to see what it looks like. It is currently a .nif file, and I understand it needs to be in a .bsa file so that it can be selected in the construction set... Thanks again for any help
Pronam
"it needs to be in a .bsa file "Nope, it's possible..but far from required.Nif files are placed in the Meshes folder at Oblivion\Data (create it if it's not there already.) Then you import then either by creating a new object and assigning it or by dragging and dropping the .nif file into CS.

Thanks, But I can't seem to see my .nif file in windows explorer, which is odd. When you open files in blender the folder that they are in contains lots of files, but these are invisible in windows explorer. Give me a sec I'll post some pics... Pronam
Try to save it elsewhere. Like a folder on your desktop. Otherwise they may end up in some hidden/virtual area.
Oscar Sheila
I got it. I'm using windows 7 and clicked 'compatibility files' on the top taskbar, and they showed up. Now that I have your ear though, I am trying to paint a cup that I have made out of a cylinder and a torus. I have merged the two items and can paint the handle in Vertex paint, but the cylinder is a whiteout and won't paint at all. Heres a pic to show you

Oscar Sheila
Okay, I seem to have fixed my own problem. For anyone else that is wondering the same thing, you just fiddle with the buttons showed in the pic below. (I'm learning as I go :) ) But like the rest of my thread it is not without problems... Once the item is completed I saved it as a blend file then exported it as a .nif (to a folder I made for my .nif's) Then I went into oblivion found a middle class cup in the object window, double clicked on it, and named it mycup, and in the same window imported my cup .nif file, and Voila! it worked. I could even then drag it into the render window and place it on a table. It looks great! However, when I load the cell in game and look at the cup, it is black and unselectable. How do I fix that? (When I edited the item base in CS I made the .nif my file but left the .bbs as the middle class cup
