Bloodcursed Arrows; wasted on non-vampires?

This may seem like an odd question, but I realized that at the end of Dawnguard, even if you've sided with the Dawnguard and are not a vampire, you can still make Serana give you Bloodcursed arrows. But is there a point to having them at all? Do they have some kind of enchantment effect on them for use in combat? And what about the arrows main use, the blotting out of the sun? Does doing that have any kind of use if you're not allied with vampires?

No, the Prophecy involved corrupting the BOW, not the arrows. Harkon's plan would have sealed the hole-that-is-the-Sun. He wasn't out for a temporary fix, he was out for eternal darkness.

Vyrthur had a similar goal, seeking to spite Auri'el by severing his light from Mundus entirely and dooming his 'children' to damnation.

You forget that it was Vyrthur who made up the *prophecy* it's not a real prophecy. Gelebor and Vyrthur, as arch curate are experts on Auriel's bow, Harkon had no idea about what the actual powers of the bow were, he just heard the prophecy and took it a little literal. There is no mention anywhere of any other way of corrupting the weapon. The only talk of corruption is corrupting it's purpose by using blood dipped arrows.

The Prophecy mentions neither bow, nor arrows. Vyrthur is rather clear that the result of the prophecy would be permanent, which clearly indicates that the Bloodcursed Arrows do not fulfil it.

You are also oversimplifying how Prophecies work. The Prophecy on Alduins wall was from the future, the Prophecy of the Nerevarine was created by a Daedric Prince, and as far as we can tell the Prophecy of the Oblivion Crisis was created by Uriel Septim himself.

All a prophecy is, is a fortelling of an event in which a hero decides the fate of the Mundus. While they are all consistent in the fact that they are do or die moments with no pre-determined outcomes, their source can be just about anything.

To be honest I think Bethesda was a bit lax on this matter of the DLC, how would Vyrthur be able to create an elder scroll? If all he wanted was to get rid of the sun, why not just hand over the bow to Harkon in person? Why would Gelebor speak of dipping arrows in blood but Vyrthur not mention it?

You know it might be possible that Vyrthur knew it wasn't permanent but still wanted to pester Auriel by blocking out the sun whenever he saw fit, but he had to exaggerate the prophecy to sound convincing.

Usually I'm all for a bit vagueness in lore but this is a bit much :)

Michael Kirkbride stated that the things we carry around in Skyrim aren't real elder scrolls, but rather "a copy of a copy of an Elder Scroll". The real elder scrolls are sealed away beneath the White Gold Tower. And such copies can be altered (remember the Gray Fox?). I guess that's what that sneaky bastard did.
