Hey.

I was wandering if anyone had any tips on designing

fantasy worlds. I have good cartographic skills and

can draw maps, I just meed worlds to draw.

I want to design a world like one that would be featured

in a total conversion. Like Nehrim, how did they come up

with their world?

Any help would be appriciated.

If you are interested in the technical part of the process, I know a little of it.

If you are interested in the creative process by which a fantasy world comes to life... well that's another story.

Either way I'm in the writing mood this night so, here I go.

to the full tutorial / description of this process go here

Now onto the creative part:

Before you even think of start with cs landscaping, take this advice: plan what you want.

To create a world, a full world you have to get some inspiration. nothing that we create is the product of ourselves alone, in everything you create, goes a little bit of everything you know.

For example, if you are going to create a spaceship, it's inevitable to think in the famous movies and tv series, video games, comic books and so on. When you create music you take the music you like, let's say "I want this riff sound like the metallica ones" or "I want my intro to be like the one of that song i like". No matter what are you trying to create, get something that inspires you.

As fantasy world are concerned, I suggest you to grab a bunch of classic fantasy books, you can start reading Tolkien, the Narnia saga (don't laugh, that world is IMPRESSIVE), and to spice things a bit go get some stories from HP Lovercraft, also get the Earthsea cicle from Ursula Le Guin.

Go play some RPGs (if you manage to aquire the D&D books DUDE!!!!).

And after all that sources are carved in your brain, go squeeze it. start simple, design a city, maybe a little town, a village is just ok, think about the people that lives there, what should they do everyday, you know, simple things...

From there my friend, is up to your imagination. There are no limits when fantasy is involved.

I really want to have helped a bit. and if you want a little brainstorming, count on me.

CorrodedSoul, over.

PD: I just LOVE spoiler tags...avoid the WALLS-OF-TEXT-OF-DOOM jejejejejeje
