Game Freezes when I try to exit..

This is a new issue for me and probably not terribly important but annoying, nonetheless. When I try to exit Skyrim, the game simply stops responding and I have to terminate the process with the task manager. Even the console command "qqq" does not work, although all other console commands are functional. I have the latest version of SKSE and the game runs nicely in all other respects (even on my dated rig and OS). I run the game offline in windowed mode with all autosaves disabled. I have tried the Safety Load SKSE plug-in, and also SSME, neither of which solves this issue. I have not re-installed the game recently but I did do the integrity check with Steam. In my surfing I have run across one post complaining of the same problem. The only suggestion that poster received was to use the qqq command and forget about it. I would do that as well, if the qqq command worked.
