wildmagicrose87
my laptop suffered a broken screen a few months ago and now ive finally gotten my ancient monitor to work. but, when i try to play oblivion OBSE gives me this error "You are using the 1.1.0.425 beta patch of Oblivion, please upgrade to 1.2.0.416." but i have the GTOY edition, and if i try to upgrade it claims the info is there... any ideas? Tomlong54210
Did you have the non-GOTY edition installed before?

Tomlong54210
Are you trying to install OBSE v18 stable? It is odd that it is reporting a version number that has never existed in your setup. Edit: Check the version number of your Oblivion.exe. Right-click on it a view its properties.

Tomlong54210
with the same game it never gave me this trouble What does that statement mean? Does the version of your Oblivion.exe file say 1.2.0416?
wildmagicrose87
it says its the right version. i uninstalled and reinstalled all the official data, and it seems to have fixed that, but now it stops working before the game loads.
bben46
You MUST install the Shivering Isles part of the GOTY before the 1.2.0.416 patch takes effect. The patch you are showing was an early beta for Shivering Isles that requires a full reinstall before you can install the latest patch. Install Oblivion. Start the game and make a save. Then install Shivering Isles. If you have a real copy of the GOTY it will automatically be patched properly. There is also a pirate version out there that claims to be the GOTY when it is not, (Did you really expect a thief to tell the truth?) and it also has this same problem. It installs with the wrong patch. And cannot be patched to the proper one. It also has a few other problems that may byte you if you have it. If this is what you have, please buy a legal version (and do a major virus scan) before asking for help here as we do not support those who do not support the game makers. Tomlong54210
Okay, now that the game is patched, have you regenerated the Oblivion.ini? If the game still fails to load after that, please post your Dxdiag (Start > Run > enter "dxidag").
