Dwarf Noble question

In the Dwarf Noble origin. Does anybody know what effect challenging Lord Dace and killing his son in an honor proving will have on the story? Has anyone tried doing it? Didn't do it on this particular playthrough because I didn't want to do anything that would come back to bite me in the butt later on. I'm guessing that if I did it on another play through the other members of the Dace family will probably have some choice words for me when I meet them later on, but does anyone know? Has anyone tried this?

Also, does anyone have any advice for getting the "Of Noble Birth" quest to complete properly? And besides that, who is the best king to side with if you decide to try to help your son get the life he deserves? :pinch:

Heh. Dwarf Noble is by FAR my most favourite origin. <<33

The dwarven society has the children take on the social class of their same gender parent. That means a daughter will be what the mother was, and a son will be what the father was. As for a ruler who does change some things for the better, it is not Harrowmont, he is actually quite ineffective, being too "nice" for dwarven politics. The best option I guess would be Bhelen and kicking the DS back to the deep roads as a dwarf for a good future.

Harrowmeet is a poor ruler; that said, if you're a Dwarf Noble, he can name you as his heir. In that case, you can (off camera) come in and clean up his mess after he's gone. Of course, Bhelen gives the best possible future for the Dwarves going by the epilogues. I just can't stand the guy. ;)

:O Really? Thank you so much for posting that because I had no idea that was the case. Is there something you have to do to get him to name you as heir? My guy did his first play through as a dwarf noble who put Harrowmont on the thrown and I don't remember seeing that information in the ending summary. Or did I read that wrong and you simply mean your son will be heir if you knock up the girl in the origin story?

elcooocin,

You might have missed it. When my fiance finished as dwarf noble female the ending said she was named Harrowmont's heir, and it was the only decision that was largely accepted by the people. Although I am not sure if she had to make a dialogue choice when she saw him after his crowning as king.

Lehcar,

The only thing I have seen after killing Dace's son was side comments by NPC's that he got what he deserved. I tend to side with Dace and take a bribe. You get the notice of credit, sell it to a merchant for 25 gold, and you keep it even after your exile. If you play as a Rogue, you can end the origin with close to 35 gold in your pocket. I usually play as a warrior and get about 29 gold. However, as a rogue there is a 5 gold valued shield in one of the locked rooms that you can sell with the line of credit from Dace.

As for the Of Noble Birth quest, I haven't gotten my Dwarf noble far enough to see the end, but I know Bhelen would accept my son as an Aeducan. (I killed Trian in defense)

danscott thank you so much for that information. One of my friends is getting DA:O this weekend and wants to play a dwarf noble with me tagging along to help her since she is nervous about playing her first big game. So I am going to pay attention to this and hopefully become the next heir to Orzammar, woot! Also thanks for the info about Dace, in my just origin playthrough I fought the son since I love any excuse to earn XP but getting money will be so much better. Even more so since I am making my friend do her first playthrough with no mods or hacks just as I did my first time, lol! So she will need all the money she can get :D

elcooocin,

when your friend plays, I will suggest a couple of things. First, win the provings, get the helmet and sell it. It's worth 32 silver. Also, when you get the promissary note from Dace, sell it immediately. You have to sell it before talking to Trian, or you will lose it. Once you talk to Trian you go directly into battle the next morning, and everything in your inventory is lost including the note. I always sell everything except the armor (it's worthless), my sword and shield ( or dagger if going two-weapon specialist). For your friend also keep the health poutlices since for a first timer she might need them. As for the noble dagger you get from the last merchant on the right before heading to the provings, it's worth a bit of silver, but for a first timer it's your call if you want to sell it or not. I think it's in the 20's range on silver, but handy in the Aeducan Thaig. Either way you don't get to keep it after the kinslaying part.

Also, if you want your friend to fight Trian, you pretty much have to do everything against him. Tell him to kiss your ass, he's a pompous ass, side with Dace, win the provings, and tell Bhelen the Trian needs to die. You can still get him to attack you first in the Thaig during the conversation in order to get the fine dwarven sword, but if you attack him you lose the opportunity to get that sword. Have fun.
