TESBleach
So I had quite a few mods and decided that it was time to just get rid of them because got tired of most of them.. So I went to the oblivion folder, then in data, and instead of deleting the mods one by one I highlighted EVERYTHING in the data file and clicked delete. Now whenever I try to play Oblivion it just shrinks the screen and says "Oblivion has stopped working, windows is looking for a solution." Well it never gives me a solution so hopefully someone knows what happened. :(

ScourgeBlack
If you deleted everything in the data folder you also deleted Oblivions bsa files and the Oblivion.esm Only way to get your Oblivion to work again is reinstalling.
bben46
By deleting the data folder, you deleted several files that are placed there by the Oblivion install. and are absolutely necessary for Oblivion to work. If you do not have any backup of the data folder, you will need to reinstall. This is what should be in your data folder for Oblivion to work. This set is usually called the 'vanilla' game. No mods, but with the latest patch installed. Music (folder)Shaders (folder)Video (folder)Credits (text) Oblivion - Meshes.bsaOblivion - Misc.bsaOblivion - Sounds.bsaOblivion - Textures - Compressed.bsaOblivion - Voices1.bsaOblivion - voices2.bsaOblivion.esm
