Plethora of CTDs and other freezing problems

Recently I have taken to playing Oblivion again. I'm having some problems with a few areas in the game giving me random CTDs. The worst of all is the Priory of the Nine. I enter the general region of the Priory and the game immediatlly begins to crawl to a half. I know its not my system, I'm SLI'ed with two 9800GTX+s and a quad core Q6600. When I try to get close to the Priory, the game freezes and then I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL to get out of it. Does this every time I try to enter the Priory. I also CTD in random spots in the game world. There is not specific order to it. I'm not sure if there is some conflict with the mods I am using, I have a bout 74 or so active mods. I have Wyre Bash and am using an up to date Bash patch... no conflicts mentioned there or with OBMM. I opened up the CS to see if I could make me a ring or other item to transport me to the Priory without having to actually enter the exterior cell area of the Priory. Couldn't and sort of didn't want to figure it out at the time.

 

Does anyone have any ideas? Do you need more info from me? Please give me a hand if you can.

Post your load order with Wrye Bash.

 

Install the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, if you have not done so already.

 

Stabilization Mods <-- the UOP and related mods linked at the top

 

You probably want to grab the UOMP as well, and install the Unofficial Official Mods Patch for KotN.

Thanks for the help. Here is my load order.

 

I have the UOP installed as well as several others. I did not know there was a patch for Knights of the Nine. I'm hoping that will help.

Also, I was searching for some help and came across BOSS, that seemed to help and I haven't had as many CTDs. Still haven't tried to go back to the Priory... so not sure if it helped there.

You still have plenty of installation errors. Did you see the link to the fixed version of NW on the page I linked, Stabilization Mods?

 

Installation:

 

Choose ONE NW plugin, not two.

Choose ONE Ren plugin, hairs only OR full.

Remove Natural Vegetation.

60 KT_CustomRaceFix.esp <-- UOP takes care of this, remove it

61 Francesco's 10 days respawn time - 1-20 day lenght rescale.esp <-- use the equivalent bashed patch tweaks, under Tweak Settings and Globals, respectively

20 MaleBodyReplacerV3.esp <-- do not install Robert v3 and v4 at the same time...uninstall one

Upgrade COBL

Install the Unofficial Oblivion Patch Supplemental on top of the UOP

Gold Adjustment is way old, the mod is now Enhanced Economy

5F Cobl Races.esp [Version 1.52] <-- you cannot use Cobl Races and Beautiful people, drop one or the other, you'll have less other compatibility issues using this mod

 

Popular Outdated Mods <-- alternative rec for Natural Vegetation and Natural Weather here

 

LO:

 

Deactivate all green-text, purple-text and italicized-text plugins. They should just be merged or imported into the bashed patch.

Do you even have a bashed patch? If not, copy it out of the Oblivion\Mopy\Extras folder.

58 Beautiful PeopleV22 - MaleReplacerV3.esp <-- this is old, but if you use it, get rid of the Robert male plugins, that is the whole point of using the Robert-compatible BP esp

You need to rerun or upgrade BOSS or something because that LO is not sorted completely (the NE plugins floating at the bottom there...)

BOSS does not recognize all mods, move 69 ExnemEyeCandy wardrobe set.esp up to where the rest of the new clothing items are

Move esp 6A Stormcaller's Horse Overhaul Vanilla Version.esp to where Bag of Holding is or something

I used BOSS a few nights ago and it really helped to stop the majority of the crashes. I just made most of the changes you suggested, Tomlong54210, I'm going to test it out right now.

 

Its been so long since I have played Oblivion, I figured a large portion of the mods I had were old and outdated. I appreciate your help in finding new ones to replace them.

 

Now, to test I go!

I forgot to mention that there is now an Armamentarium Complete mod. You should replace those individual plugins with it. I do not recognize all of the mods in your load list, so you should check everything for updates. There is a Visually Enchanted Customizer "Fixed" version as well.

Yea but he's using Francesco's so he doesn't want Armamentarium Complete, he want's the one called Armamentarium for Frans and it needs to load after Francesco's.

 

BOSS is your best friend for people running a crap load of mods.

 

Make sure you get the Unofficial patches for your game and it's expansions.

It requires OBSE. From time to time I used to get a crash when going through area transition doors. I installed that and have not had that issue since. It plays a "windows chime" sound but the game continues on, uninterrupted.

Please, do not add WeOCPs. It covers up crashes. You should only install it as a last resort, and, if it does not work, remove it. You should, however, get the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, which is linked on the "Stabilizaton Mods" page, "Important Downloads" page, the "Downloading Mods" page, and a number of others. Isn't that Armamentarium mod still included in the Armamentarium Complete download? He should still install the complete resources. I was not saying which plugin to add. I was only pointing out that there was a condensed alternative.
