I'm nowhere near finished; I have a lot of touching up to do on the textures, then I have to model and texture the attachments as well. This is my first time 3d modelling and texturing, so I would appreciate any feedback you can give me! Try and keep it positive please.
dangman4ever
Nice work so far man. What attachments were you planning on making?
jtucker40
Thanks! I'm thinking an ELCAN scope or holographic sight, an ergonomic foregrip (decrease spread), and a skeleton/retractable stock (decrease weight).
Snowman1944
Looks great! If I may, you might want to increase the poly count a little more on the rear sights since they will be right up against the character during iron sights use. Other than that, great work! :)

Other than that, great work! :smile:Thanks! Improving the poly count is definitely something that I am considering, but since that would require me to re-build, re-map, re-bake, and re-texture that area I'm a little hesitant. Also since one of the modifications will be some sort of scope I'm not sure if the amount of work I would put in would make that much of a difference. Definitely a possibility though, thanks for the input.
jtucker40
Question: Would people rather have a third attachment (besides a lighter stock and a scope) that is 1. a magazine with increased capacity (base gun has drum w/ 100 rds, upgraded to box w/ 200 rds) or 2. an ergonomic foregrip that decreases spread. Rounds downrange only matter if they hit, and higher accuracy/tighter groups can easily make up for the small(er) magazine size. Besides, the vanilla LMG (which reminds me of a Stoner M63 for some reason) already has an extended drum mod. Mod questions aside, this is one of the better M249s I've seen :3 Not -quite- Millennia quality (oh how he spoils us!), but still a damned respectable job. My only question is, why an ELCAN? You Canadian? Not many people outside the maple leaf nation (or the gun community here in 'Merica) even know what an ELCAN is.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too, the player would benefit much more if the attachment made the gun more efficient in combat rather than just giving more bullets to shoot. And thank you! I've been following his tutorials very closely to make sure I catch all of his tricks, that dude is insanely talented. As for the ELCAN, the majority of the scoped M249 reference pictures I've been using (if they have a scope at all) seem to be utilizing the ELCAN. That said, the people in the pictures could be Canadian, but I was under the impression that it was a pretty common scope choice. I guess I could try making an aimpoint or something instead or maybe a holo sight.
WhiskeyRiver2
I just double-checked, and while the ELCAN is a Canadian-made optic, it's also an option for US military forces. For some reason I thought only the Canadians used it. Herp derp de derp >:U Also, from what I've seen the ELCAN is under-represented in vidya gaems, while Aimpoints, EOTechs and ACOG/VCOGs are all the raeg - so it'd be a welcome change to see, IMHO. jtucker40
Haha alright so the ELCAN it is. I'm just about wrapping up the base gun's textures (I'm having some issues with the normal maps that I can't seem to find the answer to), so it shouldn't be too long.
