sak1776
Hey there!I was hoping someone might be able to mod the current UI for the game. I would love to see some stuff added. I sort of played with a picture of my UI and the changes I hope to see. Any chance? I really don't know how to do this stuff, or I would give it a try. Thank you. http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l188/sak1776/mod%20images/UImodsuggestionforDAOAwakening.jpg Sorry if the image is too huge.
sak1776
Nobody can take me up on this one, please? Especially the second hotkey bar thing. Thank you again
DarkeWolf
Ok, first, I want to state that I am not against your ideas. I, along with many others do agree with them. Especially about the skillbar. There's been several efforts to increase the functionality of that particular aspect of the UI. Unfortunately... Bioware took some VERY unorthodox and uncommon methods of implementing a lot of the aspects of the mechanics of this game. And we as yet, don't really have the fuller modding community that some of the older, more estabilshed, or more mainstream games do.There's also the fact that some of their files use some very unconventional filetypes. Some of them, some of the more experienced programmers of the community have actually had to go so far as CREATE tools in which to deal with them. (And some of those tools, still needing more development in order to fully function). Which is really limiting us in getting some of this stuff figured out, on how to mod it, and IF it can be modded.Despite their claims to have made this game with the intent of it being moddable, a lot of the mechanics and implementation of it, make it seem otherwise. I'm not saying this to try to be harsh, or say that your ideas are unsupported, or anything like that. I'm just saying that this is an area that the community is still trying to crack. So it's going to end up taking some time for them to be able to implement ideas like this. For them to be able to catch up to the mechanics of this particular game. sak1776
Those sneaky petes! Heh I was one of the many people who I am sure believed that DA was purpose built to be easily modded, and, as such, really WAS easily modded. Thanks for the explanation DW, it is appreciated, and I didn't take what you said to be harsh in any way. It was a concise, lucid explanation of the issues involved in changing something Bioware should have made easily changeable from the start but were too lazy or thoughtless or ____________________ (fill in your own adjective here) to do the work. Thanks mate, and I will keep a lookout for the mod that does add a second hotkey bar. That will make life so much easier, eh? Ciao for now,Sak
DarkeWolf
Indeed, I fully agree. As do many others, that a second skillbar would be a phenomenal asset. Psh, back in the old days, we'd just whip up a 2d graphic for it, throw in a custom script to map it out, then add lines to the script for the game to recognize it.Dragon age? Heck no, you gotta have half a degree in database utilities to get it to recognize any graphic that wasnt part of the distro! And thats not counting what it takes to actually make it function. Dont get me wrong. I think that Bioware did a great job with the idea of the story, the story, it's characters (Especially its characters!) and a lot of the gameplay. But kind fell flat with the mechanics. Probably has a lot to do with EAgames having bought them out. They like to run with the quantity over quality, roll um out quick style of business. Indeed, do keep an eye out. Just... dont hold your breath. We may not be in time to resusitate you :wink:No... Hopefully, we'll see somebody be able to crack this nut pretty soon, and then we'll see an all new age of mods for this game :D
