Gamegurl
Greetings all,I just downloaded DAModder 2-1-2-286 as I was having major grief attempting to install a mod that I received on a PC Gamer disc. The mod is "A Tale of Orzammer".I 1st attempted to install via the read-me instructions using daupdater. BRrrPPP. No dice there, it didn't recognize the file as a DA.zip file.At the Bio-ware boards your mod was suggested. After downloading and firing up your application, I dragged and copied a version of the zipped file to my desktop, then did the drag and drop into DAModder.Mod installer fired up and then a message stating "no valid mod data was found at the specified location" popped up.I don't even know if this !%#%^ mod is worth all the trouble but I'd like to try it.Any help is greatly appreciated.I verified that I do have net 3.5 installed.thanks in advanceGG
DarkeWolf
it didn't recognize the file as a DA.zip file. Is that a typo, or is that the actual extension of the file? ".da.zip"?If so, thats the cause of your problem. Thats not a known extension, and wont work with any of the installers, even the one that is included with the game. You could change the extension to just .zip by right clicking on the file, choosing rename, and then end it with .zip windows will give you a message asking if you really want to do this, just choose yes. I've done it on many occassions when I've wanted to see the contents of .dazip files. You will however, have to make a copy of the file from the disk before doing this. You cant change any file that is still on the disk. Also, does this folder include subfolders which are in .zip, .rar .7z format? If so, the installers will not read those files either. They would have to be extracted from those folders first. sounds like whoever published that disk did a bad job of it. Also, are you trying to install it into damodder directly from the disk? Have you tried making a copy of it on your desktop, and then tried drag n drop into damodder from there? edit- I found some info that may be helpful to you. http://www.rpgwatch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9148Yeah, they did a really bad job of packing this mod. You first have to unpack it from the folder that it's in, then REPACK it up. How dumb!!- launch the self-extracting file.- zip all the content of its extracted folder, and perhaps an .xml file too, but not the - folder itself.- rename this zip file extension as ".dazip".- drag and drop in the DaUpdater.exe, select and install. read the post from the link. you DO have to include one of the xml files, and a later posts tells you which one. I have gotten at least two whole grey hairs jacking around with it and after having read the process for repackaging it I threw my hands up and said *blank it!!* from what the other fella said about the mod it's no big advanture and is close to what you get in Orzammer to begin with. Thanks for all the helpcheersGG
DarkeWolf
Not a problem. I'm sorry that it turned out to be a disappointment tho  And sorry that I found that new info AFTER I had posted, I coulda saved you some reading. But my curiosity got me going, cuz I'd never heard of that DLC before.Nothing like looking forward to an adventure and end up walking away disappointed. LOL I think this game has given me more grey hairs than my last breakup did!

DarkeWolf
Ah well.... from a technical standpoint, I havent had that many issues with it. Other than it sucks down a LOT of ram and tends to crash on me at times.More like some of the characters in the game, that I don't agree with. Particularly some of the dwarves in Orzammar.

I don't necessarily want a spoiler but am curious what lvl you were when you finished the game?I re did part of the game to get the Superior Drakescale for Lele and am (sigh) going back into the fade at Tower Circle quest. Should be pretty fast going as I did it once already.I'm level 12 now, still a mere pup. After I finish the Fade I will have done 2 of the gathering troops quests having done Redcliffe and the Urn 1st.I still have a ways to go yes?? I find that these storyline quests can drag on a bit.cheers and happy huntingGGPS: If you aren't playing any new games at present I read about one that looks cool called Mytheon. Free MMO with a cash shop. I am thinking I might take a peek, it's in Beta at the moment.
DarkeWolf
heh, dwarves can be quite the upstarts, thats for sure. I think my biggest issue is actually with the "powers that be" in Orzammar. Bhelen, and his flunky predominantly. Well, if you're not using the lvl 50 mod, the vanilla game limits your level cap to mid-late 20's. My first character ended at around 27. My second I think is around 23, tho I'm still at Arle Eamon's place. I finished up the alienage on her then started a different character, lol.My other character is about 18-19 and at about midgame. wow, it sounds like you've done and redone a lot of work there. Yeah, the DO go on for a while. But if they were quick, we'd burn thru the game too fast  Mytheon might be interesting. Bad time for me to try out a MMO tho. I have a bad habit of getting TOO hooked on online multiplayers. And I cant really afford to balance an addiction with my classes/studies till after I'm out of tech school. But if you decide to try it out, hope that you end up liking it.

I might like to grab that one for lvl 50. If there are any others you suggest that might add to the WooHA of the game plz to mention em and thanks again.pssst, I know about that MMO fever, hence my cancellation of my WOW account. *big grin* Looks blearily at the clock, WHAAAA 4am?! lol To many sunrises with WOW if you get my drift. :whistling:
VGfallout
i just assaulted Dwolf's inbox with this mod that just came out today apparently it has an extremely detailed description, but to sum it up ... gives better (and configurable) loot, increases difficulty (you may finding yourself craving a challenge in higher levels), and merges a few other Essential, and i mean Essential mods out there, such as auto-loot, advanced tactics (expanded party tactics - god-like)..and uh...oh yeah, skip the fade, but you'll want to experience the fade before you skip it, lol. so if u do try this DONT install skip the fade, capiche? ;] perhaps its a release of biblical proportion to me in particular, as it provides a difficulty scale i have been trying nearly 3 weeks to achieve, i use D:awakenings as a base and even without it found my character blazing through enemies on nightmare...i am now the blaz-ee thanks to this, hell yeah@fear of dying!!! :D id rant on forever but i had forgot i ahd tthis when i got home and am now too eager to play the game for me to type another wo.... -disappears
