Dingoz
I have been playing FO3 recently with pretty playable FPS (around 45 - 60) but encountered a rather irritating problem yesterday. After playing for about an hour, a strange form of lag seemed to appear. The FPS was rather untouched (only dropped like 5) but the time it took to do other stuff like opening crates, boxes, vending machines, etc took like a second (normally its almost instant). Have been searching around for such threads but well, to no avail. By the way, I am running it at High, minus AA and set Anisotropic Filtering to x2 (to keep the Pipboy interface looking decent). And here are my specs. Pentium D 3.0 GHzNvidia Geforce 9800 GT 1GWindows XP 32 bit Service Pack 3 Can anyone help pinpoint the problem here for me thanks! :)I have the NMC performance texture pack installed along with some other mods that are confirmed to be problem free. Also, I am upgrading soon to a new rig, so Im wondering if the problems would be carrying over.New specs: Intel Q8400 Quadcore 2.66GHzNvidia Geforce 250GT 1GWindows 7 64bit Will appreciate it if someone who has used a similar rig (the new one) can give an overview of the performance! Really looking forward to the new rig and getting rid of this old problem.Thanks.
AlexxEG
In console type "PCB" Short for "Purge Cell Buffer" It's because of the NMC Texture Pack, but PCB fixes it. Then when It start to lag again, do it again. Also he have uploaded a mod that does this automatic
fap6000
They used to say the auto pcb mod caused more problems than it fixed. Even manually pcb isn't that safe, you need to either use groovatrons teliport ablity or a door to force a reload (loading screen). Actually I've noticed about 90% of the manual PCB stopped once I started using SelectivePurgeOnFastTravel and PreemptivlyUnloadCellData turned on, which the TweekGuide says to leave off for performance reasons, but that was before we were getting coruption in the cell buffer data from added chaos, like MMM or something. I used the background loader too. The tweekguide isn't really 100% clear on if these settings work or not, but yah they do...
AlexxEG
I never had problems with PCB manual, however the mod made me crash when I entered doors.
fap6000
Yah it was such a good idea for a mod, but I think it conflicted with other mods somehow causing probs. Idk You should change yer fallout config notepad files so you can stop having to worry about PCB. Those two are built into the game engine. I know with all the manual PCB I did it gets really old really fast, an breaks the gameplay up with times when You have to do stupid pcb stuff out of habit. bPreemptivelyUnloadCells=1 And bSelectivePurgeUnusedOnFastTravel=1 I've only been using these an the background loader, for about a month but it seems to work better, an less need fer the anoying pcb. Now if I could only get out of the habit.
Dingoz
Thanks all for the help, will go try both the manual PCB and the ini tweak. Had done some tweaking before, so i guess it shouldn`t be too bad :P
