roquefort
Well, finally had a chance to try those ideas, but neither installing the latest K-Lite nor the clean boot made any difference. I might try tweaking around with the codecs but I fear it might come to a re-install of the game as I'm quite mystified, and the slowness is annoying -- been doing the Anvil rat-lady quest, and following Quill-Weave around at half speed is tedious  Fallout3 & other games still run a treat, and so did Oblivion before the last re-install. I just don't know. PS Don't like the new Spoiler method..
Tomlong54210
Codecs and the Abomb bug are the two standard cause... The only other things that come to mind are bad video card drivers and try a defrag maybe...
roquefort
Fixed it -- canned oblivion.ini and forced the game to make a new one. Should have done that to start with..
