How do I relocate a house?

I recently downloaded a house that I really like, but I don't like the location. I want to move it somewhere into the great forest south of Chorrol. It's underground so there's only a trapdoor to it. So if I move the door to where I want the home to be will I be able enter the house as normal? And what about the map marker, do I need to move that somehow? I'm not experienced in house modding, so please explain what I need to do simply..

A door is acted as a transporter to the house's plane/grid area, or whatever, right? I just want to know if I can move it and still be transported to the actual house like normal, and have the map marker be in the new correct place. Could anyone tell me? I have the CS and I know how to move it, so that should be simple enough..

Yes, you can move an exterior building anywhere you like. The only thing is you'll need to make sure the door is linked to the new exterior. Interiors are in their own cells so it doesn't matter where the exterior is.

See here for how to link doors.

Of course you'll have to recreate the exterior in it's new location...ie anything like gardens, outside buildings without doors (if they do have loading doors follow the same procedure), and any other landscaping etc.

You could change the exterior to your own taste anyway if you prefer something different to the existing one as long as it's for personal use.

You can either move the map marker or delete it and create a new one which would probably be a better idea. If you move the existing one you will also have to change the location it's linked to as well as details like whether it's visible on game load, can fast travel to etc.

Thanks! But I'm not really sure how to make a map marker either.. Is it very simple? :pinch:

Edit: Nevermind, just saw a video on youtube only 28 seconds long that taught me. Extremely simple!

Having a bit of trouble getting the door to show up. For some reason, even though I've saved my work, it isn't where it should be. The map marker is there and works, but the door isn't there. It's just a little trap door so it doesn't need to be placed on a house. I've looked all over for it in-game but it's nowhere. And when I try to exit out of the CS it asks me if I want to save my work. I click yes and nothing happens, no automatic save and exit, so I figure it's waiting for me to save it myself. After saving it again and trying to exit out I get the same notification. Is my CS malfunctioning somehow? I've saved it at least 10 times without clicking anything after, yet it still asks me if I want to save before exiting. Maybe it isn't saving properly?

I worked it out actually. I just made new door since the new map marker worked. For some reason it just needed a fresh new door, and it works! Yay!

Linking a door - first, unlink the door in the interior cell, then create a new door in the exterior and place it to your liking. Double click it and go to the teleport tab. There, select your interior cell from the drop down list, and the door you want it linked to. You may need to place the doormarkers a little different from their default locations.

Adding a mapmarker - In the objects window, go to statics and search for mapmarker (just type M). You can place this in the world. When you double click it, you can go to marker data. Fill in the tabs (tick all flags execpt for initially disabled) and give your marker a name. It will now appear on your map.

Saving and Using - As ShadowFen said, first look for dialogue windows. If there aren't any, make sure you actually activated the file, as this does not happen automatically. If you are running vista, UAC (User Acount Control) might be the problem. Go to your data map and look for your file. If it doesn't show up, UAC is at work. Try to save your file in a temporary location (user/documents, for example) outside your program files. Now you can normally place the esp in your data folder.

Hope this helps ;D

Happy modding ^^
