spinspider
I just got Awakening, and for some reason I cannot get the debug/cheat/developer console to work. I try pressing the button the brings up the console in Origins, but in Awakening it simply does nothing. What am I doing wrong here? Did I miss something I was supposed to do?
VGfallout
ah yeah, that totally sucks, it's nothing you did, im not too knowledgeable on details but do remember reading from somewhere that DAA runs completely independent from DOA, which no longer makes it an expansion but an individual retail product...(..?) which means they kind of made a special "compressed" version of the engine and for some an unknown or unintentional reason didnt think console was necessary (yeah right!@), who knows, all that -is- known is that you cant use it sux :| i think someone made some base cheats for it though lemme checkyep right here ---> http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=347 BUT DONT CELEBRATE yet.. cause i dont think its what you seek that still doesnt give you the rest of the scripts, sadly it might be in the source-code but not certainly, never seen NWN/bioware sourcecod, though im sure "equivalent functions" could be duplicated for similar results to the originals... but would require rebuilding them from scratch...something that simply shoulda been included for our own benefit i hope to be proven wrongnow i remember that was one of the main thnigs that bothered me in DAA, it was.........to say the least.........ahem........... (punch me in the face before i say it!!! trust me ill deserve it) .....an rude awakening (oooooooh how amazingly creative hyaahah time for bed) ;[
jturtle
I am having the same problem; the console simply does not activate. I have that mod already, and the one that makes the console typeing visible by Angel. It used to work; now I reinstalled using the DVD (I had digital download and had ALL kinds of problems), added the phrase to the shortcut everyone says is necessary for enabling the cheat mode, and -- NOTHING! It doesn't activate in Awakening, or in the original game. One question with such instructions -- I opened the keybinds, but didn't change anything. I use the Grave button normally for such things, which is the default. Did I miss something? Should I have changed the "0" to "1"? This is very frustrating, because I like to set certain things (mostly freeforming talents and spells. I hate being forced to pick things I will never, ever use). Help would be appreciated. Oh, and I tried utilizing a trainer from DHT, but it is unclear where the trainer is to go. In its instrtuctions, it says to "put it in the Dragon Age folder". Since there are several of those, and there is nothing in that folder but more folders, it seems a little strange.
Thandal
I can confirm that the Command Console works fine in Awakening, both "retail-disc" and the UE version. Just checked my on rig, (now with a UE install) since I hadn't bothered to use the console in DA:A in a long, long, time. (Had to look-up the commands again. ) A few of them are different, (adding gold, or to character stats, for example) and the "Angel Font" mod doesn't work, (you can't see what you're typing even though the full character set appears repeatedly at the top of the screen) but the basics are exactly the same. And AFAIK, there's no "stand-alone" Awakening. It absolutely requires DA:O, and uses the main game engine and support files.

For the shortcut, I put AFTER the .exe" [space] -enabledeveloperconsole . If I try to take out the space, then it gives me some message about illegal target or something. For the Keybind.ini file, as I said, I didn't change anything. Does this sound correct? What is frustrating is I know I had it working before, but during my uninstall after the program set up got corrupted, I lost the shortcut and everything else... Thanks for looking it up for me in the first place.
Thandal
Hmmmmm... Looks right. Here's my "DA:O Console" shortcut, exactly as it is entered (copy-pasted from the "Properties" tab, so the punctuation IS IN THE ACTUAL SHORTCUT):"C:\Program Files (x86)\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe" -enabledeveloperconsole(For the 32-bit flavours of Windows (XP, Vista, or Win7) the folder name is just "\Program Files...", not "\Program Files (x86)...") Did you have the quotation marks in the right places? And here's a screenshot of the shortcut from which that command line was taken: http://www.dragonagenexus.com/imageshare/images/1678793-1313623507.png Hope that does it for you.
jturtle
Hurray! I figured it out. My shortcut was going to the launcher! I have no ".86" folder in the program folder; mine goes C:\Program Files\Dragon Age\... etc. When I went to the folder before, I must have created the shortcut from the wrong executable. Tested it in regular game and Awakening, and discovered that for me the angel erf DOES work (thank goodness! I am a terrible typist!). I could see what I was doing. More importantly, the mod denl_givepoints that makes it simple to give talent and skill points works! So I can give myself points to cover those talents I don't want but have to take because of game order, and then forget about them. Thus I can use my talent points I earn for the talents and skills I would actually pick in a freeform setting (which is actually closer to the way D&D 3rd edition and beyond works with feats and skills). I can also use the xatmos lockbash talent so I don't need a thief or miss out on those early chests. :) I am a happy man! Thank you!
Thandal
Glad you got it going. The folder "\Program Files (x86)" is unique to 64-bit versions of Windows. It's the default installation folder for user-installed 32-bit applications. For the 32-bit flavours of Windows (XP, Vista, or Win7) there's just the "\Program Files" folder. So kudos to you for reminding me to provide that bit of clarification in my original response.
Sync182
*spanks Thandal for not remembering to differentiate between 32-bit and 64-bit* :whistling:
