Mod first or Play through first?

Hi all, my first post here

I'm going to get Dragon Age in a couple days and I want your opinion on which first-playthrough experience I should have. Do you think I should play through once first without mods or do you think I should install some mods first before I play through?

The mods I'm thinking about are mainly visual improvement mods, textures, etc as well as various items. I'm also planning on installing some adult themed mods.

On a related note, do you think playing on an easy difficulty makes the game less engrossing/enjoyable?

Any other comments/suggestions welcome

Thanks!

Hi there !

In my opinion Dragon Age is a fantastic game and I believe you should play it through without any mods if you are playing this game for the first time. This will give you the feeling of the original game , something that the creators of the game want you to experience. Obviously you can add mods later on to maximize gaming pleasure.

The level of difficulty is a matter of personal choice.I don't think that playing on an easy difficulty level will make the game less enjoyable. when I'm playing a game for the first time, I usually start at medium difficulty so that I don't get stuck anywhere because having to repeat a single quest multiple times is what actually lessens the degree of enjoyment (at least in my case).Once I gain experience with the first play through, I go on increasing the difficulty level for subsequent play-throughs.

Playing on easy not only reduces the damage you take but also completely removes the friendly fire aspect of spells, making that a lot easier. To me that is less fun, because you'd just be able to cast large area effect destructive spells all over the place without penalties.

Normal difficulty should be do-able for most of the game if you use some strategy.

I would definitely recommend playing with the whiter teeth mod, if nothing else. http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=44

Makes talking to people soooooo much better :D

I'd also recommend dragon age mutator. Its a standalone program that allows you choose several mods from a list that you want to use. One of them includes the ability to unlock chests. This means that you dont HAVE to AlWAYS have a rogue in your party. http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=166

If one of those mature oriented mods that you're talking about is Natural Bodies... a lot of people have some issues installing it. I did an article on it, so if you have any problems, it should help you out. http://www.dragonagenexus.com/articles/article.php?id=38

You might also have some issues with the file extensions. If so, here's a decent thread- http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=202679

You will probably also need 7zip to handle some of those extensions. You can get that free here- www.7zip.com if you dont already have a prog to handle .7z

Easy mode is ok starting out, I usually end up going to a higher level after a little while.

Welcome to the nexus! Happy gaming!
