brokenergy
I think it is the best cRPG of the decade and the closest thing to Baldur's Gate 3 we can get. From the story and character perspectives it is great but from the technical perceptive like DWolf said it could use some more work, especially from a modding point of view. It is just sad that there isn't much cRPG out there anymore and more are going to shooters, first perceptive games or MMO's so it is a great change to have a cRPG. I can't say that it is the best RPG ever as it is subjective and people are entitled to their own opinions, but it is the best cRPG of the decade so nothing bad with that. VGfallout
lmfao@rusty's fan descriptionahah good one, too true >:] i love this game in so many ways, i will not make your heads bleed with 50,000 words heh, i will skip that part ;] from my perspective, i think this is the best RPG i have ever played in my life, i've played quite a few of them but not all. i have a hard time imagining a previous title that could surpass this one however, and even a harder time imagining how the sequel to this will top its predecessor, while bioware has been known to make these breath taking initial releases, far too often does the sequel really feel worthy of...being a sequel. Mainly, because they have this bad habbit of "use the same engine, just add a few tech upgrades", which is a critical and fatal mistake when providing people with a "new" experience. knights of the old - so awesome, sequel >same deal few tech upgradesmass effect - so awesome, sequel > still awesome but same deal, few tech upgradesdragon age - love of my life, sequel > please...spend some coin on research & development as far as modding goes, i must respectfully disagree with some of the opinions ive read. indeed sql, the c++ influenced lingo & a few other things do NOT make it as user friendly as we've come to expect....and at first glance the editor is simply OVERWHELMING. its like being in an computer hardware store with the LATEST most expensive pc components, and someone saying you can only take THREE items....that is the kind of anxiousness it creates for lack of a better description however................. once you start poking around and get the hang of its basic functions, the rewards are simply incredible, and while i dont like the sqql service starting up with my performance tweaked OS any more than the rest of you, i LOVE how everything is integrated and streamlined, it's essentially like having the functions of the engine's "source code" at your very fingertips, its amazing, i think its incredible, i think its the most powerful SDK that covers Every technological aspect for a game, ever created the only sdk/utility i can think of to match its versatility would be the Source engine's Hammer mapping app (never dipped into UT3 so i cant say)the ability to do things, and literally test them in game within moments is so beautiful, to try 4 or 5 different armor model variations within 30 seconds is...just .... god i love it. it is lacking with a few things as far as utilities, but the community has covered thatand recently someone turned me on to GDAPP cause i spent nearly 5 1/2 hours trying to get excelprocessor.exe to work and couldnt, thank god for that another thing is that...*deletes the rest of the sentence* - you know what, i think im gonna jump into the toolset right now, love u all but its time to hit the bat-cave! ill come back out to play later tonight :D

Gintok1
In my opinion, DA has a great potential to be the best ever RPG but right now I have the feeling that its overrated, here are some reasons i think why its that way: 1) The game isn't that open, you can go to a few places and then beat everything down, in a sense it feels like the game plays itself. The story is fine but could've been better. 2) The combat system, it doesn't even feel strategic, and it feels unnecessary, the terrain doesn't calls or allows flanking to happen, as the map path is very limited, and you don't even need to issue strategies to win. 3) The animations, this is what i hated most, firstly the way you move throughout each battle is totally ugly, do you turn into some damn hunchback when you fight or something? The slashes are even awful, its not that cool i mean, and the killing move wasn't that awesome and there were less. 4) Graphics, i think its fine but something's should've been improved like the skills for mages, they look hideous, especially when you fire out that bolt through your staff, the skills looks boring and lazily made. In summary: There are things that Bioware could've done to make it more realistic, but it seems they are just too lazy to do so, which could be easily seen when you look at the items or equipments, they just look pretty much plain, dull and similar, they're just a bit different due to the status and colors. Everything just feel forced in this game, they could've taken more time and really put their best efforts in it, it's sad to see that they could've done it better but didn't do so. Well there are alot of things that could've been done better but i'm not so good at explaining them, I hope you guys know what i mean, but I meant this game could've been much better, it has potential but well we'll have to see that in DA 2. vany666
For me this is the best game I have ever played. I had never felt this attached to a character, party members and storyline. It makes me shiver just to start it over and live the story one more time. I absolutely love it!

I feel exactly like this!  The only thing I don't love about the game, is all the dungeon diving. All the 50 enemies Vs. you and your 3 friends, over and over again before seeing the light of day.
chronosmagus
The true RPGs of this genre have been created a decenia ago, when developers could still focus on content and story, rather than graphics. What bothered me most with DA was it's limited freedom, you could change the order of the steps, but there were too few choices with a real impact. To be honest, I think 'the best xx.' never works because of personal taste, but even the term RPG is a bit too generic. I enjoy both Oblivion (#1) and Fallout 3 (#2) for their ability to 'Roleplay' in (using mods and such, making it truely immersive), but I would only choose them as best in the "Sandbox First Person RPG" genre. The best 'Single Hero Third-person RPG' would probably be the Witcher, though I might be forgetting about some other gems atm. I'm not sure what I'd choose for 'Team-based Semi-Active RPG' and I'd probably be (mostly) nostalgic to go for SNES games such as Chronotrigger (I can still play that game, thats true replay value xD). Perhaps with more time DA can grow to be truely the best in its genre, who knows what DA 2 might bring. Right now it still feels a bit.. unfinished. I just wanna say that at least here... you can savegame and shut down. or you can leave (most of) the dungeon whenever you want to. A lot of online games, once you enter, your locked in. If you have to leave for whatever reason you're hosed.
