Question about mod quality and compatibility.

I'm planning on modding my copy of New Vegas and, after looking around, I found the following mods (plus all official DLCs):

The Someguy series

Fallout: Brazil

Project Nevada

Alternate Repairing

Monster Mod

Run the Lucky 38

Improved Throwing

More Perks

FOOK - New Vegas

Mission Mojave - Ultimate Edition

Perk Every Level

4GB Fallout New Vegas

This is not all of the mods I'm interested in, but that's where I want to get started with.

Are these mods compatible with each other? If not, which ones should I use?

If you plan on running both FOOK and Project Nevada, you might want to take a look at FOOK-PN Convergence.

Project Nevada has its own repair system which is incompatible with Alternative Repairing, but it is disabled by default. Just something to keep in mind, don't enable Project Nevada's repair system, and it should be fine.

Perk Every Level is redundant since both Project Nevada and FOOK lets you adjust this on the fly in-game.

Okay, I've found the mods, but many of them have a buttload of compatibility patches that sound similar to each other.

Here are the mods:

A Definitive Armor Mod

Mission Mojave - Ultimate Edition

New Vegas Anti Crash

Diversified Mojave Wasteland

FOOK

Improved Throwing

Max Level Adjustment - Max Level 255

More Perks

Project Nevada

Weapon Mods Expanded

King of the Ring

New Vegas Stutter Remover

The Someguy Series

Essential Visual Enhancements

A World of Pain

Project Brazil

New Vegas Bounties I & II

New Vegas Killer

Run The Lucky 38

The Inheritance

Electro City

Interior Lighting Overhaul 6.6

NV Interiors (Original and Urban Editions)

Zan AutoPurge Crash Protector

In these mods which patches should I use?

I'm not going to go into all of those mod pages and study what patches are needed for you, most of them I don't use myself so I don't have the information memorized.

Maybe someone else can help you off the top of their head, but your best bet is simply to read what info and what patches are available for those mods, one by one.

I would also advise against installing everything in one go, if that's what you're planning. That'll make it difficult to narrow down the problem if something breaks your game. Start by installing one mod, load your game, check that everything works fine, then move on to the next one.

You get no guarantees for compatibility quality or even if the mod will work at all - They are FREE and all made by amateurs not professional game designers. Even you could create a mod and upload it here.

However, there is a feature that will allow you to make a better judgement of each mod, and that is endorsements - if the mod has a lot of endorsements it probably works. Please remember that a new mod will not have very many endorsements yet. But you should still always read the readme and description for each mod. Not all mods even install the same way. And the author will tell you in the description. If there are known compatibility issues they will usually try to let you know so you can avoid trying to install mods that are just not compatible with each other.

I do recommend several utility programs - Most of these are not mods and do not install like mods - so read the instructions.

A mod manager - NMM isn't the only choice, there are several others with different features. NMM is the simplest though.Check out Gpphers tutorial if you do want to use it.

LOOT - this will HELP you set up a working load order

NVSE (New Vegas Script Extender - REQUIRED for some mods and highly recommended

Wrye Flash - a little hard for neophytes, you can hold off on this one for a while

4GB Fallout New Vegas - a workaround for allowing the game to use more RAM when used with 64bit Windows.

NVAC - New Vegas Anti Crash - helps prevent some (not all) crashes

FNVEdit - advanced graphical module viewer/editor and conflict detector ( more technical than some)

Fallout New Vegas ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated - Not needed if using NMM or some other mod managers
