Nadin
I was merging several mod with plugin merger, one of which had an ESP as a master. I did not realize this, however, and merged it to an ESM, forcing it to have a higher load order than it's master. Realizing my mistake, I opened said ESP in Fo3edit, changed it to an ESM, saved and closed. I then opened them both up and made both of them proper .Esp files, saved again, and quit. The problem is that the one that was merged still says it's an ESM. So I repeated the process, but when I tried to change the .esp to a .esm Fo3edit said it could not access the file. I checked and neither fallout nor FOMM is running, so what's going on?
Quetzlsacatanango
If it has an esp as a master that esp is probably a master, so there's no reason why it can't be higher in the load order. File extension doesn't matter. For the locked file problem I would reboot if you haven't already.
