How Do I Make an .esp Dependent on an .esm?

I downloaded Wrye Bash and Python yesterday. I had never used either program before. I think I downloaded the newest versions unless there was an experimental beta version posted. I tend to avoid that type of utility programs. I will download mod betas, but I don't want to download utility programs that aren't likely to work right.

Maybe one of the settings got set wrong in installation. Maybe I should delete both programs and hope that when I reinstall, all the old bad settings reset to default.

To work out around Vista, I have put Oblivion in C: Games\Oblivion. It mostly seems to work, but some of the TES4Gecko functions don't work and it was a nightmare installing TES4Edit.

As I dimly recall, there is a point in the wryepython install where one of the packages will ask you if it should be the default version. You should choose 'yes' for that, but everything else with that pretty much took care of itself I believe.

Then Wrye Bash itself should get installed/unpacked to the Oblivion directory (where "oblivion.exe" is).

Hope it is working for you now.

Not having any luck. I have installed several new versions. Now I am downloading the oldest versions I can find and the old version of Python. (I sure wish there were some instructions on where and how to install Python. All of my shooting in the dark doesn't seem to be accomplishing anything.) I find the instructions to be very poor as if we are expected to already know everything, or else be mind-readers. The newest files have numbers of 275 and 284. I cannot figure out why 275 would be considered to be newer than 283. Some of the files are auto installing and some are labeled as archive. I do not know if "archive" means, "old outdated, on display as an antique" or archive in the sense of "library of data." Neither the auto-install nor the manual install works. I think I might be having Python problems.

I am running 275 myself - haven't gotten around to upgrading yet. I used the 275 self-installer for Bash and the Wrye Python 02. Just removed and reinstalled to see how it works for me.

Run wrye_python_02-????.exe. When it asks for a directory, give it a directory to unpack the various package installation file into for subsequent use by the installer. It is safe to accept the default answers for all of the questions.

Run Wrye_Bash_275_-_Self_Installer-????.exe. Verify that it found your oblivion directory and let it finish installing.

(Optional) Create a shortcut to oblivion\mopy\wrye bash launcher.pyw for your desktop. You can use one of the icons in oblivion\mopy\images if you like.

In oblivion\mopy copy bash_default.ini into a new bash.ini file. Edit your new bash.ini file to set

sOblivionMods=E:\usr\Oblivion Mods

where you replace the "E:\usr\Oblivion Mods" with the full path of the directory where you want to keep your mod archives for use with the Bain installer.

That gets me a working wrye bash - and for reference, I'm running on Win7 Ultimate 64.

Wrye Bash - http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/prep/wrye-bash <-- follow the setup instructions here

"Archive" refers to compressed files. Version 275 is not newer that v284. That does not make sense. If you have used the installer version, extract v283 into the Oblivion folder, letting it overwrite everything. You still need to download and install Wrye Python 02 and then create a new shortcut to the launcher .pyw file.

Mission accomplished! (Not the Wrye Bash mission. That program still doesn't work. I will have to try again someday when I am fresh and have a lot of time.)

It turns out that you don't need Wrye Bash for deisolation. You can do everything with TES4Gecko, which is really fast to download, and really easy to install. My mod now has a master, and I can actually start moving forward again.

Thanks for the help everybody!

The point of using Wrye Bash would be to make an ESP a master. Use TES4Gecko to convert plugins to ESMs. I think this thread got sidetracked a bit... Glad to hear things are working for you though.

Happy gaming!
