Best stats/usage of Shale

I have never really used Shale much, mainly because she has never proven useful in game except to knock people off their feet when she quakes the ground, lol. I was wondering if anyone has played her much and how did you distribute the stats and what talents you found most useful etc.

One big issue I have with her is that usually I am fanatic with tactics and have everything set just perfect for everyone so that I rarely if ever even click them at all, only directing my main character unless I need, for example, Wynne to use earthquake or stone fist instead of heal/support. And I know with most of Shale's talents you can only use one line at a time, right? Or am I wrong? But from how I usually see her if you start to use one line you have to deactivate another ... so that tends to annoy me to the point I just gave up on her. But I would love to carry that golem around more because I adore her personality and all those little quirks that make her great.

So any help or info on how you play her would be amazing!

You are right; she sucks.

I play with Nighmare AND Awakening is hard...she gets slaughtered...not real point to her, unless you cheat and give her 100 free stat points...

Only 100? I give her 100 each on Str, WP, Con and she is still pretty useless but at least on the rare occasions when she does hit something it usually stays down.

Best use for her I have found is to equip her with lightning crystals as she does a fine job as a light source and can always stand in as comic relief.

L M F A O @ Rusty, oh God I busted out at the last line!!!!!!!

Oh, sigh, yeah she and dog are the only ones I tend to cheat up at least 10 stats (kind of my cheat limit ... 10 ... dunno why, lol) but I just really hoped I was doing something wrong with her and not that she wasn't going to be useful to me. :/

I *LOVE* having Shale in the Party. Her banter is the best. I almost fell off my chair (for real) the first time I heard her call Morrigan "The Swamp Witch"! But as other's have pointed out, she's really not a Tank.

What she is, is a Bunker! After a "Quake" and/or "Hurl Rock" at ranged targets, I use her "Stone Aura" to buff the rest of the party. At the higher levels this raises the party's (and lowers the enemy's) attack, defense, and stamina levels massively. When coupled with "Threaten", or other hostility-enhancing attributes on her, it makes many fights a simple matter of backstabbing the fools who swarm around her and the Emissaries who waste things like "Crushing Prison" against her.

In fact, the real reason (besides side quests) that I don't just stick with my original party of PC, Alistair, Morrigan, and Leliana (I don't like Dog!) for the whole game is to enjoy Shale's company. Sten is a great Tank but boring, Zev is cute, Oghren can be a laugh, Wynne is good for a few things, (but not much, in my opinion!) but I find I really *care* about Shale.

See, now that is the entire reason I want to make her useful, because I love her and want her banter!! So thank you so so much for telling me how you use her, I am going to try her out as soon as I get her in this game I'm playing now. May I ask how you distribute her stats? Is it best to put it mostly into constitution? I always figured Dex was good for her since it helps with accuracy and I figured at least she would HIT things when she tries too with that! LOL!

I usually get her in as the tank of the party, either her or Allistar (she at least doesn't whine as much). With enough con and a defensive stand she can take a lot of damage, so I just rush her in, provoke the whole lot and go backstabbing.

Constitution is critical. For one thing, her "adornments" have Const. minimums, with the best ones having the highest. (Another example of "the rich getting richer"!) If you're the sort who likes to switch gear to better counter a specific threat, there are hot, cold, electric, spirit, and nature sets.

I posted some screenshots so you can see how (my) Shale looked (Character sheet and Talent Tree) on the Bioware site. They're from about 80% of the way through that particular playthrough:

Have fun with (your) Shale!
