A Question About NPC AI Packages

Hello, I'm using the CM Companion Mod to create my own custom NPC and was wondering if there was a way to write an AI Package that allowed the NPC to wear an appropriate piece of clothing (or accessory) at a certain time of day such as changing into PJs when going to bed or wearing glasses while reading (the latter of which is what I'm looking to do). It sounds as if it may be tricky, but if it's doable, then I'm certainly willing to give it a go. :)

Also, when adjusting the skin tone, is there any way to make the face pale in the construction set? Right now my NPC looks as if he's spent too long out in the sun when I want him to have quite a pale face. It's only females that seem to be able to have the lighter skin tone, while the men have a much darker one.

You cannot write an AI package to change clothes. That is not how Oblivion happens to be set up. You can however write an object script to place on the NPC in question which will have them change clothes at certain times. But half the triggers don't work when you are using that type of script. You will be doing good if you can get your companion to change clothes 80% of the time. The script will work and not work on a random basis, and you might have your NPC running around bare or wearing two sets of clothing at one and having them clip badly.

Different kinds of triggers have different reliability levels and chances of success. If you write a quest with dialog and have a dialog option to tell your companion to change clothes, and have a result script, that would be about the most reliable trigger I can think of. One option would be to do the object script I described above, and also do the dialog with result script to easily fix things in-game when things glitch.

Changing skin tone of the face is a built-in function of the CS. It is really easy to use. In the CS, go to Object Window>Actor>NPC>YourNPC. Go to Face>Complexion. It is really fun. You should try it.

Males have darker skin in this game, but there are enough settings to tinker with that you could make him as white as a ghost or darker than any African if you chose to.

Thanks for replying,

Looks like I'll have to leave the clothes changing out. It'll definitely makes things easier.

As for the skin tones, I'm glad there's a way to make them pale. It's just that when I try to mess with the complexion, he stills looks rather dark. I'll have to tinker around with it like you said until I get the skin tone I want. Thanks!
