drscott11
As the topic states, I'm trying to remove the scabbards from a few swords as I do not like the way they look and just want the sword only. I have tried a few things but none of them have worked. I'm not even sure that I'm doing it right. Currently I'm trying to use nifscope to open and remove the unwanted parts from the mesh. I have tried: 1. Selecting the scabbard, 2-parts, 1 at a time then right-click "Block > Remove" or "Block > Remove Branch". Save & Replace. The mesh appears to be removed but in game it's still there. 2. Editing the block's info from the info panel with the same results. I have tried to find a tutorial but most of the are for armor or adding transparency so that skin shows through. I know this is possible to do, but how it's done is a mystery. I also tried exporting it as an object then used Blender to remove the layers, but when I re-imported it into nifscope the preview was gone and it reported a few errors. Am I even close? I've worked with dds files before without difficulty but I do not have a good understanding of meshes. If someone could lend a helping hand, it would be much appreciated! ScrollThief84
Ok, so I just tested this and it works; all I did was open the 1st person nif in NifSkope and in the 3d window I selected the sheath and pressed ctrl+del and saved it. Loaded up the game and no more sheath.
ImsumDave
What ScrollThief1984 says should work. The nifs labelled as 1stperson are used for both 1st person and 3rd person, as well as NPC equipped weapon meshes. Normally, a vanilla weapon will have at least two nifs associated with it: a 1stpersonweaponname nif and weaponname nif. The nif sans 1stperson is used as a ground model. It's what will bounce around on the ground when you drop a weapon. I believe it is also used for weapon racks/plaques, although, I'm not sure about that. drscott11
Excellent info; I'm going to try this now. If this works, I have a lot of work to do. EDIT: So it turns out that I was doing it right...yet wrong at the same time. I was using Control-Delete (Remove Branch), just on the wrong nif. I was using the regular version, in this case "glamdring", as opposed to the 1st person model (which does not make intuitive sense) "1st Person Glamdring". Works like a charm now! Thank you both very much for your insight and assistance! I can now apply this logic when "fixing" other nifs. Thanks again!
Ouroboros1988
There is an Oldrim mods which tags scabbards as invisible or non-render, if you like. It works fine with Skyrim SE, though I only used one set of nifs to remove the scabbard for Dawnbreaker. It was rendering improperly for use with the skeleton. Here's the mod; https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/58955/?tab=posts I did optimize the nifs using the available tool, but it solved my troubles completely.
