How Do I Work on an esp. with an .esp Master?

Recommended Posts

Thanks to the efforts of Tomlong54210, Wrye Bash can finally run on my computer. I am working on Tales From Elsweyr.esp which has ElsweyrAnequina.esp as its master. That is correct. It is ElsweyrAnequina.esp and not ElsweyrAnequina.esm. It sounds as if data will be lost, the mod will be messed up, and the slave and master relationship will be lost every time the CS opens an .esp that has an .esp for a master. In editing this huge mod, I am going to have to open and close dozens and dozens of times.

So would this be a procedure that would work?

(1) Create ElsweyrAnequina.esm.

(2) Make Tales From Elsweyr.esp have ElsweyrAnequina.esm as a master.

(3) Do lots of modding.

(4) Do lots of play-testing.

(5) When the mod is finished and ready for upload, change the deisolation and make Tales From Elsweyr.esp have ElsweyrAnequina.esp as a master.

(6) Be sure to not open this mod in the CS unless I have changed the deisolation configuration back to Tales From Elsweyr.esp having ElsweyrAnequina.esm as a master.

Would this work?

Is it the best way?

I have done some testing since my post, and my method doesn't work, and yours doesn't either. Play-testing cannot be done with ElsweyrAnequina.esm as master. The ground isn't there. The ground is only there in Elsweyr if ElsweyrAnequina.esp is master.

Unfortunately the espify function on my copy of Wrye Bash does not usually work. It is usually grayed out when it should be available. The esmify function usually works, but then you have the problem of how to undo it later, since esmify doesn't work. If I wrestle long and hard enough and use functions from Wrye Bash, TES4Gecko, and TES CS I can make the transition. But it seems like I ought to be able to do it easily and at will within just Wrye Bash. I am going to have to make this transition dozens of times before the mod is finished. This really kind of stinks.

EDIT: I think I made a discovery. The program will not espify files that were esmified in another program.

You should be able to click on the plugin and choose esmify. As a result, the plugin should turn blue. Then you can go into TES4Edit and change whatever you want. Once you're done, go back into Bash, right-click on that same, now blue, plugin and choose espify. That does not work? I make dependent plugins all of the time.
