The Ideal Ending?

In all honesty I think that each ending (in terms of what faction you supported) is kind of in a greyish moral area give or take (except for maybe legion they lean more towrds black).

Heres my personal opinion on each ending

-The "Yes Man" ending is left fairly amigious aside from immediate events but as far as I remember it was strongly hinted that Mr.House had a program that would allow his personality to be reborn in yes man as an artificial ai so in the end all your fighting was for naught. But apparently there was not much damage done on the strip so there is some semblance of peace (unless your destroy the securitrons).

- The Mr.House ending I think again is kind of gray since while New Vegas does thrive as far as I know the rest of the mojave remains much the same. So basically everything remains in a stasis and the rich get richer and the poor have to fight for the leftover scraps.

- The legion endings only have one benefit you can argue for order. The rest of it is fairly bleak less so with Caesar as the leader but in the end no matter what leader you have the legion ending is bleak, espcially so from further conversation with npcs and palying through the lonesome road with a high relation with legion.

- The NCR ending doesn't really elaborate on much aisde from they take complete control, but through in game dialogue basically NCR problems become mojave problems and the NCR has a lot to contend with including corrupt governemnt and buisness, fighting the rest of the legion, establishing order, and the potential for a huge food shortage.

Anyway thats my 2cents I was just bored when I saw this thread and it's not an elaborate philosophical and political breakdown of them but just my basic opinion from what I can remember about this game since I'm revisiting it for the first time in two years.

The NCR ending doesn't really elaborate on much aisde from they take complete control, but through in game dialogue basically NCR problems become mojave problems and the NCR has a lot to contend with including corrupt governemnt and buisness, fighting the rest of the legion, establishing order, and the potential for a huge food shortage.

That's not what I took away from the NCR's ending, if you made all the right choices. I thought it implied that they took control of the Mojave and things were pretty good as a result.

As to the original question (of how to get that ideal ending):

  • Boomers: complete Volare!
  • Raul: complete Old School Ghoul. Convincing him to take up his guns is probably the more satisfying ending, but convincing him that his time is past isn't exactly a bad ending either.
  • Brotherhood: leave McNamara as elder and complete his quest, Eyesight to the Blind. When Col. Moore asks you to wipe the Brotherhood out, go to McNamara. He will offer to sign a truce; take him up on that.
  • Veronica: convince her to stay with the Brotherhood; complete the above for the Brotherhood. This will get you with what passes for a happy ending with her.
  • Fiends: Kill Cook-Cook, Driver Nephi, Violet, and Motor-Runner.
  • Followers: After you complete You'll Know When it Happens, go to Julie Farkas and convince her to support the NCR during the Battle of Hoover Dam.
  • Arcade: Complete "For Auld Lang Syne," and convince Arcade to go back to the Followers (I don't exactly remember how it's worded, but basically, tell him not to aid the Remnants).
  • Cass: Complete Heartache By the Number by turning over evidence to Ranger Jackson.
  • Great Khans: Convince Papa Khan to break his alliance with the Legion, then convince him that the Great Khans should claim their own legacy. (Do not replace him with Regis).
  • Jacobstown: either:
  • - Complete Guess Who I Saw Today, pass the Speech check with, or kill, Keene, and either pass the Science check with Doctor Henry or convince him to continue his experiments on Lily.
  • - Same as above, but either fail the Science check above or ignore it, and do not tell Henry to continue experimenting on Lily.
  • Lily: she's kinda screwed no matter what you do, but I usually tell her to take her medicine at full dose.
  • The Kings: Ease tension between the Kings and the NCR in G.I. Blues, and use the King's favor to convince the Kings to make nice with the NCR in King's Gambit.
  • Rex: get him a replacement brain from either Rey (Old Lady Gibson's dog) or Lupa (the Legion mongrel at the Fort).
  • The Misfits: complete Flags of our Foul-Ups by following either Mags' or O'Hanrahan's advice.
  • Novac: Complete Come Fly With Me by aiding the Bright Brotherhood.
  • Boone: complete I Forgot to Remember to Forget by convincing Boone to make amends over Bitter Springs
  • Powder Gangers, NCRCF: ignore them. Helping the NCR retake the prison will result in Eddie dying, which results in a bad ending.
  • Powder Gangers, Vault 19: Either convince Philip Lem or Sam Cooke to ally with the Khans, or blow up ONLY the sulfur deposits below the vault, then convince Philip to surrender to the NCR.
  • Primm: Complete My Kind of Town; it doesn't particularly matter who you install as sheriff (though Meyers isa arguably the worst candidate, it's still far from a terrible ending if you pick him).
  • ED-E: Complete ED-E My Love by taking ED-E to the Followers.
  • NCR Rangers: Either don't expose Chief Hanlon or convince him to stop falsifying records (either kill Caesar or get evidence of his disease).
  • Remnants: Convince them to aid the NCR.

Finally, after doing all of the above, complete Eureka! for the NCR, which has them take the dam,

One note about this ending: Goodsprings. Siding with the NCR means that Goodsprings sees increased trade, but some of the older folks move on to avoid paying the taxes. Personally, I consider this a neutral ending at worst.

  • 3 weeks later...

Although I haven't complete the game (save for Dead Money and Honest Hearts), after reading up I've found that the Good Karma Independent New Vegas to be the best in my opinion. Yes, the Courier may (depending on how you view it) become what is effectively a dictator, but it has often been said that the best form of government is a benevolent dictatorship.
