Well a lot of what you mentioned, V*****l jesus, In flames, etc. but my tatse also go beyond that, I to liked NIN but never grew out of it, I have about every halo, and skinny puppy was a another I liked, I first heard of them off of the game "MDK" hey what do know I'm right on topic, talking about my "music choice"

I don't think that all music I like is deep and has a lot of meaning but I tend to perfer the ones that do. And don't like however kiddie punk, lincoln park is kiddie punk, but I can at least tolerate listening to some of it, though I feel guilty for lowering myself to enjoy such bubble gum crap.

ive noticed alot of metal bands are deep and meaningful, although, nothing goes past (lyrical wise) then Burzum, inventors of black metal, with a annoying vocal, Varg Vikerness A.K.A. Count Grishnackh i think it is, he made that band, and now hes in jail.

but there are many good bands with deep and meaning full things, a list.

Killswitch Engage (second album is better "alive or just breathing")

Skinny Puppy (the most cryptic sentances are in every song they make)

Naglfar (very fast black metal, yet maintaining to keep a deep side)

Marduk (nuts about war on their 1999 album, although, they still are a great band)

Soilwork (all their albums are good, their more recent ones are a little more emotional)

SYL (strapping young lad), very heavy, and great band)

Meshuggah (anyone who listens to metal has at least heard this band once)

then theres the meaningless bands after speed and gore related lyrics.

Cannibal Corpse (banned from touring australia)

(old) Carcass (fast and gory)

Death (first few albums were worse than cannibal corpses)

Meat Sh*ts (dont listen to them, their crap, and they are obsessed with rape)

An*l C*nt (funniest song titles, every song sounds the same)

im sure you get the idea.

Classical music used to be the normal thing to listen to way back when ever, Now while still there are many who still do (like me) it is past it's time.

Hi Acrid,

Can you explain that remark, please? I know many young people who are only just beginning to realise that classical music gives longer-term rewards than many other kinds.

I will listen to any music with an open mind. Some I find hard to relate to but I won't dismiss it without trying. But whereas I will go back and listen to classical music years after first hearing a piece. There are very few instances of my doing that with other kinds of music. And even when I do the pieces I like would probably also be described as 'classics' of their kind.

So I don't believe classical music has had its day. Sorry.

Ok, what I meant was the majority of people listened to orgastrated(sp?) music back in the way old days. Now far less do. As for classic music in general, yes there will always be classics.

Well im sitting here in my dad's office and i can hear my sister's usher cd and its really starting to wear on me.  Of course it would be stupid of me to generalize against rap in general but its true that i have never heard any rap song with any kind of good meaning behind it.  I think music is incredibly important in life and it inspires me more than anything else.  I think that soon the whole rap phase is going to pass and be remembered as a phase as ridiculous as roller disco.  I was wondring if you felt the same way or if maybe im just a nutcase

Rap is just another symptom of the music industry.

These "oh-so-hardcore" ganstas wear a macho image, and sell more records...

I find all 'popular' musicians a bit laughable.

Ho-hum.

All music is aimed at a certain demographic.

Nothing is 'real' or has 'integrity' it's all to make dough.

But all varieties of music have a place...Even Wheetus.

(even if Wheetus' place is in the jaws of a pack of rabid jackals)

IMO, good music is a music that is still listened, 50 or 100 years after its created and earliel it may be hard to say in fact. there are many tunes that were great 10 years ago, so to say, and now... nothing

but you dont need to wait that long, ther s always something you like.

personally I listen classic like Prokofiev, Chatchaturian, Beetoven as well as Rammstein or Alice Coopers and therę s something goodeverywhere. Well Britney may be the exception :P

I agree with you whole-heartedly. I used to be very close-minded about my music, thinking along the lines of "Well, I belong to this group of people therefore I have to only listen to this type of music and where these clothes and act this way.. Really, really stupid. I've since then said F*** YOU!! to stereotypes, and like whatever I damn well want to. Which includes just about every genre under the sun except country. I can appreciate concious rap but that gangster stuff I dont personally like. But having just bought the OutKast CD.. I love IT!! Andre 3000 has turned his back on hip-hop and gone decidely jazz with some funk.. its excellent. :D
