Arcane Warrior Question

I always choose DW, but I think that has more to do with the fact that I can't stand the long delay between strikes imposed on 2H weapons.

With high enough Dex and appropriate DW talents, (esp. "Flurry") inflicting damage becomes almost continuous, if not so massive with each blow.

BTW: AW + BM = Invincible! ;D

I agreed with that until I loaded up nightmare plus; I'm no longer invincible, just fearless and cocky  Uldred almost killed my heavily tweaked warden when I took him on with a modestly tweaked Wynne only; I actually had to reload because the first time around all the mages died. Broodmother dies in 10 seconds and Uldred almost kills me - go figure.

I always do the two-handed mostly because I can't find the dual-wield for arcane warrior mod. That's actually a good thing (for me anyway) because playing a rogue is fun as well but if I could DW (or stealth) with the AW I probably wouldn't go rogue at all and then I would get stuck in a rut and get bored with the game.

Well, anything can work.

I play a staff+sword+shield Arcane Warrior / Blood Mage. Every stat point goes into Magic. I cast with the staff in hand, then switch to Sword + Shield when I want to DPS a single Boss and all my good spells are bouncing or on recharge. He's as good on CC and DPS as a pure caster (thanks to his equipment) and very hard to hurt, and his melee attacks don't care if a boss is spell resistant.

Dual Weild is fast, fun, and does good damage, but I don't like sinking points into Dex that could go into Magic. You get attack and defense from the Dex as well as the ability to dual weild, which is nice, but you lose some of your spellcasting edge.

Two Handed weapons look impressive, but without the skills I don't think they're worth the slow attack rate. YMMV.

All of my mages use Blood Magic first, then duel swords second. I use the runscript addtalent 4020 so my mages are also rogues along with the All Spells Can Learn mod, all my mages also have the templar (holy smite) and warrior (massacre) ablilities as well as rogue ablities which I use stealth alot. Arcane Warrior to me is just another specialty of which I have all of them but my mages are always Blood Mages/Shapeshifter/Spirit Healer/Battle Mage/Arcane Warrior/Keeper in that order. My mages never use sword and shield, only duel weapons. And they never, ever wear armor. We have rock armor for that.

Hmm...I recently made an Arcane Warrior and wanted to use these mods for 2H and Shield skills for them but they didn't work. I have another one installed where you have a ball of energy as a shield but...hmm.

Well, my basic question is how I can have an arcane warrior that is not an autoattacking machine...does anyone know??

or does anyone know what I mean?

Did you have the ball of energy installed when you had the all spells installed? Also, there are a few things to do with the ASCL mod to make sure it works. First of all, I also use the Awakening in the OC mod along with the ASCL. I have made a folder in the My Documents\Bioware...\override folder named ASCL. In it I have put the required files from the Awakening in the OC mod as well as the original files we had to move for the ASCL. Also, you need to make a folder in the addins for the ASCL mod as stated in the description. The actual mod itself are 2 DAZips, one for Origins and one for Awakening. By making these folders and useing the OC mod, you are allowing the spells from Awakening to be played with in your Origins part of the game. It sounds complicated but just follow the directions of what to copy and paste where and it will make for a fun game.

When you use the runscript addtalent 4020 cheat you'll get the rogue icon:

If you have installed the ASCL correctly, you'll get the options EXCEPT if you are playing a rogue. For some reason you don't get the complete warrior talents. I always play mages so I get them all, I have not opted to use the warrior talents but I still have them, it will look like this:

If your talent page does not look like this, you'll need to recheck your installation. If you want to know more of how I run this mod, PM me and I can go into further detail. I can't play without it, if you're a mage player but want more from your mage, I highly recommend the ASCL mod!

No, sorry, not sure what you mean. And ElDoomMoose, I'm sorry I didn't mean to hijack your thread like that but I did want to reply to Stardusk. Who knows, maybe you might be interested in this combination! ;)

Thanks for the reply.

The mods I had wiere 2h and shield talents SPECIFICALLY for AWs...meaning they were supposed to use the magic score...hmm...but maybe I will look into why it might not be working...

Personally I would not use ASCL...it's just me but from a role playing perspective it just seems wrong. To each his own. I like having the classes with their niche.

Now by auto-attacking...I mean this...

Heavily armoured, high defence with sword and shield (but no skills) AW wades into the thick of battle....and just attacks with the sword...and takes very little damage...that is imo auto attacking...sure, it works but it is boring...anyway. If I could just get these things to work...

I see, I am not familiar with that mod, I don't use weapons so much so I don't need it.

Oh I understand! One of my admins feels like you do, we tease each other all the time about how different our playing styles are but I truly understand your point of view. I'm not one to tell someone how to play, only how I play! :D
