SovereignGFC
I know that programs like FOMM and NMM already exist, and I use NMM myself. However, I think it would be cool to have some way of creating "mod groups" (NMM doesn't do this; if FOMM does I haven't used it in years). I thought of this when reading about A Tale of Two Wastelands, a massive cross-mod that ports Fallout 3 onto Fallout New Vegas with a connection between the two worlds. Unfortunately, the mod is gargantuan and incompatible with virtually everything else. This is understandable given what it seeks to do, however, I almost feel like I need two installations of Fallout New Vegas in order to play it. One for the setup I have now, and one for TTW. Unless I want to tediously install/uninstall 40+ mods to allow installing one. Enter mod groups. Using a "known-good" configuration, which I would think could be drawn from existing install data NMM already generates from installing mods, I could "save" a setup of, for instance "Better Cass," "Better Veronica, "Willow" and "Companion Sandbox" as "Ladies of the Wastes." Then, if I wanted to install/uninstall all these mods at once, I'd click one button. The groups would have to have a memory to deal with one mod overwriting another, which is actually sometimes exactly what you need to do, unless you want an endless barrage of prompts about it, as both Cass and Veronica need a patch to work with Companion Sandbox that overwrites their files. These mod groups could also incorporate save-tagging, so that it knows which save games are compatible with which groups. Make it manual, so it's on the player (trying to figure out what mods are active in a save file sounds like a nightmare), but if I activate "TTW" then NMM/FOMM would automatically "hide" any incompatible saves by moving them to a different directory (like ones compatible with the "Ladies of the Wastes" above).
