SparrowBlack
Recently I walked through Riverwood and got a letter. So far this is nothing special. But by chance I had to walk the same road to Whiterun that busy bee had to use to get home again. So he ran and I followed him. Through wolves. Through bandits. Through a sudden snow storm. And my little skinny hero of a courier somehow managed nevertheless to get home in one piece (partialy with my help) So I wondered: that guy is most of his day on the run. Through all of Skyrim and all its dangers. Risks his live over and over again to get a small piece of parchment with some letters to my current position. :ninja: If somebody would discribe that guy to me, I first wouldn't thing of this guy:  http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120512224351/elderscrolls/images/thumb/b/ba/Courier19.png/256px-Courier19.png ...but much more somebody like him: :pirate: http://i.imgur.com/581oY.png( Warchief Armor by hothtrooper44 ...just as an example  ) So here comes my challenge: reequip that poor, skinny, at first sight helpless guy so he really seems to be fit to his task  I'm really looking forward to the first design ideas
faffman
Well, he can't be heavily armored since he's constantly runnning, but he definitely should be using light armor, and he could be dual wielding swords or daggers to defend himself. A good sneak as well perhaps, bit of a rogue type, so he can emerge safely from a Forsworn or bandit hideout and deliver his goods. Or, like in Oblivion, he could be using a horse. greenknightfury
Reminds me of something I have commented on in the Fallout: New Vegas forums (and on some Let's Play videos of the game) before, a Courier in those conditions (whether Skyrim or NV) would be the baddest of the bad, hardest of the hard, pure stuff of legends. Why, you ask? Because these guys go through the most dangerous of territory, braving every conceivable danger (just wait until you have a Courier hand you a letter in the middle of a fight with a grounded dragon! I have had that happen multiple times in multiple playthroughs) alone and as lightly armed and armored as possible so as to make sure they can run longer and burdened almost entirely with their deliveries. Really the best way to explain how tough these guys should be is the wandering bard you can run into (forget his name atm) that I have seen tear a pair of trolls and a pack of six wolves apart, all in the same battle, with the same ease I'd kill a similar sized group of skeletons at level 30 duel-wielding Dawnbreaker and Red Eagle's Bane, while using that undead killing healing circle spell (blast my bad memory for names right now). Truly only dragons and dragon-priests should be something that can even begin to be a bother to any Courier when you look at it from the story they weave by making them track you down anywhere (in the world cell admittedly, but just outside the Vampire Lord castle isn't much less hair-raising than inside, danger wise), during anything, and sending them in straight lines back and forth through any level of nasty territory. If they didn't want them to be obvious unstoppable battle machines, they should have had them all be masters of the Invisibility and Muffle spells; going totally unseen until they hand you the message. SparrowBlack
A good sneak as well perhaps, bit of a rogue type, so he can emerge safely from a Forsworn or bandit hideout and deliver his goods. I imagine someone so dedicated to his job, he is willing to give nearly everything for it (except his feet, cause he still needs to run, and his arms, so he can still swing his weapons) but he definetly needs cuts, bruises, lots of scars and an eyepatch :pirate: Rouge-like is a very good idea. His main purpose is not to leave a trail of havok but to get past the dangers on his way and as fast as he can towards his delivery target. But too sneaky wouldn't do him any good, otherwise it would take him forever to get there. On the over side he shouldn't just rely himself on his speed and endurance. Otherwise he would show up in the more dangerous places with just more than a letter."Got something for you to deliver. Your eyes only. Let's see.... and I also got some trolls, wolves, and a bunch of not-so-happy-looking bandits as an extra for you... please sign here!" Maybe he should show up batman-style in a puff of smoke. (Right the moment you are trying to balance out one of these nice golden idols against a bag of sand on one of those weight-triggered traps and every tiny bit of wrong movement means certain and unbelieveable painful death :geek: )
Valkasha
This should be pretty easy to make. I'll make something tonight. Tough couriers incoming. Edited September 8, 2014 by Valkasha

bben46
I accidentally killed him once - He was on the other side of and being attacked by a group of wolves. He stepped right into the path of the fireball I threw. I checked and looted his body so he really was dead. ( He really doesn't have anything worth taking) He showed up several days later with a message from Falk Firebeard.
Valkasha
Lol. He was probably pretending to be dead hoping you'd take care of the wolves and leave him alone. Crazy shouting fire mage? Nope I'll just pretend im dead :D
nerdofprey
When you say he got "home" does this mean you're using Provincial Courier Service? I love that mod. Anyway, my point is, I think that mod makes some changes to the NPC. To be on the safe side, it would be good to make it as a plugin specifically for that mod, so they're not competing to overwrite the vanilla NPC. Changing an NPC's gear is one of the easiest mods you could possibly make, so versions with & without Provincial Courier Service could easily be uploaded side by side... even multiple versions with multiple outfits, with or without the mod. Edit: For the record, it would be just as easy to randomize his gear by pulling it from one of several leveled lists. That would mean stuff like Immersive Armors would automatically be compatible. But he might end up dressing weird, and I'm not sure how often it would refresh... Edited September 8, 2014 by nerdofprey
Valkasha
I got the mod ready but waiting for permission of the armor creators.
