scissorhands
My gpu is a nvidia geforce gtx 760, and my cpu is an amd fx 6300. I listed the mods I have installed in the spoiler tag, so it doesn't take up a bunch of room in this post. If you don't want to look through the list, then I'll tell you that none of them are graphics enhancing mods (apart from grass on steroids, but the grass density is low enough to improve performance), and none of them should slow the game down considerably. Except, they do. Or at least, something is. I know Skyrim has the annoying fps glitch that fallout 3 and new vegas had, but even still, with my pc I should be able to run Skyrim on pretty decent settings. As it is, I've had run programs (can't remember which ones, sorry) to improve performance, and severely downgrade the graphics from their normal level. I've even had to lower the game resolution to 720p, which is pretty noticeable on a big monitor. Since my last session of playing skyrim, I have installed HiAlgoBoost, which should help. I feel that this shouldn't be necessary however. Can anyone offer any explanation as to what might be causing my performance issues? LeddBate
Well, it certainly shouldn't be your GPU. I only have have a GTX 670 and I run Skyrim with all settings maxed (except that my AA and AF are only set to 2x and 4x, about 50% of maximum) on a 32" 1080p averaging about 40fps. Low, but not annoyingly so. I am unfamiliar with AMD's fx 6300. But a quick search shows that it runs at about 89% of Intel's Core i5-3570k (which is their "middle-of-the-road" chip) -so I doubt that your CPU is the bottleneck. I don't see any problem with your mods. I have about 80% of them myself. The "boost" mods I am completely unfamiliar with, so cannot comment on. My first guess (and, admittedly, its a guess) is that you may need to update your GPU drivers.Second guess is that you may not have enough RAM -or, you might have enough, but have too many background processes running. camaro_69_327
Just checking to be sure..... The grass setting in Skyrim is backwards.....the lower the number = more grass | a higher number = less grass......i know ..its Bethesda. :)
Shubal
Instal ENBoost, install SKSE with shesons patch and make sure you have an skse ini, don't use HiAlgo or any other "boosters" as they are counter productive to what ENBoost (without the ENB Part) does. I have a 760 and a 3hz processor and things are very smooth.
Valkasha
How much RAM do you have?
notmyhome
You can run Skyrim Performance Monitor to see what's bottlenecking you.
scissorhands
Thanks for the responses everybody  My first guess (and, admittedly, its a guess) is that you may need to update your GPU drivers.Second guess is that you may not have enough RAM -or, you might have enough, but have too many background processes running. I don't know how to check whether or not my GPU drivers are up to date, but I had an nvidia popup not that long ago, which told me to update them. Given that I haven't had one since then, I assume its the latest version, or at the very least, a not-that-out-of-date version. I also have 8GB of DDR3 RAM, which should be more than enough for gaming (isn't it mostly handled by the GPU and CPU?). I use task manager to make sure there's nothing else running. I even have steam set in offline mode. Just checking to be sure..... The grass setting in Skyrim is backwards.....the lower the number = more grass | a higher number = less grass......i know ..its Bethesda. I know. The number I set it to is way above what's recommended, so that shouldn't be a problem as far as performance goes. Instal ENBoost, install SKSE with shesons patch and make sure you have an skse ini, don't use HiAlgo or any other "boosters" as they are counter productive to what ENBoost (without the ENB Part) does. I have a 760 and a 3hz processor and things are very smooth. Well, in the HiAlgoBoost readme it mentions the steps that need to be taken to make it compatible with ENB mods... wouldn't that make them work together? If not, I'll try them both separately to see which is better. I've had SKSE installed for ages, though not because of ENBs. You can run Skyrim Performance Monitor to see what's bottlenecking you. Ooh, I didn't know that existed. Don't want to risk sounding like a noob, but how exactly will that tell me what the problem is? notmyhome
If for example your RAM is at 100% all the time, your RAM might be bottlenecking your performance. But 8 GB should do, really.
Amyr
Even though I don't think FX6300 is a good CPU(considering the fact that INTEL CPUs tend to perform much better in Skyrim), combined with a GTX 760 it should be more than enough to play this game smoothly since you got no visual mods whatsoever. Try to backup your mods and revert Skyrim back to its vanilla state, then try to play a little with default inis. Lets see how that goes, also do you have any problems with other games? scissorhands
Well, I've tried the things that've been suggested - I installed ENBoost. Apparently the later versions of SKSE come with sheson's patch already installed, I just had to activate it. I also did a clean install of my graphics drivers - that alone seemed to help a lot. I'm not sure exactly what caused it, but now my game's running a lot smoother. Thanks all!
