Is FCOM Worth the Effort

Hello. I am going to be purchasing a new computer in a few weeks, and given that Oblivion has become one of my favorite games to play on the 360, I've decided that I am going to give it a run on the PC. Earlier I I had asked about general mods that the majority of the community uses, and since then I've browsed around for a bit and stumbled across FCOM Convergence. It seems like an ideal way to reconstruct the Oblivion experience, but I've heard that i8t is a nightmare to install properly. I've read through the installation instructions on FCOM's site, and although I have had no modding experience whatsoever, I seem to think that the instructions are possible to comprehend, albeit long. That being said, for those of you with experience installing/using FCOM, is it worth the extensive effort required to install it? Does it make gameplay that much better (better being closer to the "ideal" RPG experience?) Also, what leveling mods pair well with FCOM's overhaul of the game (nGCD, Progress, etc.) in terms of creating a balanced game experience?

It is a phenomenal mod IF you can get it installed properly i have had to install and reinstall my oblivion several times even though i followed the directions pretty much as well as i could.

It can be pretty tough leveling up though some of the places you went as a low level now have monsters that will wtfpwn you. if you choose to be a sneaky type character then def get the fcom archery and Ive heard the thieves arsenal(i used Shadow Ranger Mod By Hobbs) It gives you good armor and good weapons and a pet to help you.

After i got the hang of what to do with downloading it i can do it well now and i have actually got to a point where i didn't crash until i started the mage guild quests. Unsure on why that was but anything to do with dead things or necromancers caused me to crash.

I think nGCD or progress works well with it i used none of them

It makes the game play much more fun if you have it downloaded properly and u don't get and CTDs which i had almost none of unless i go near dead things or necromancers.

I would say it is worth it even the few ctds i ran into it makes the game play fun but it is a pain to install. just make sure to save often in case you do have some ctds and if you have any questions regarding fcom i am def not an expert but you can message me on here on at [email protected] i will help in any way i can i have installed it many times and even tho i still have some problems i have managed to get it working well.

Plus it is much better on the computer a lot of cool stuff can be done on the computer with all the mods and console commands and what not(but don't use the console commands to often it sucks the fun out of it)

Thanks. I'm probably going to read through the installation directions several times so I can try to install it without problems on the first attempt. By the way, how many other mods out there are comparable with FCOM? (More specifically, do many mods that add content - such as weapons, armor, dungeons, quests, and new landmasses - conflict with FCOM?)

Very few mods conflict with FCOM, one thing to watch out for is the huge difficulty spike in some mods due to multiple tough opponents, as far as new content goes I recommend integration, kragners death quest, velndoa bloodlines, tears of a fiend, and the lost spires these will add about 200 or so quests into cyrodill and shiving isles. The best new lands mod are elsweyr deserts of alequena and the underdark realm of northdark

hope this helps

as a scottish friend of mine says: abso-bloody-lutely! i can't even imagine playing oblivion without FCOM... it's just not the same!...

but hey... make sure you use the WHOLE pack... that's Francesco,OOO,MMM,Warcry,BobsArmory and i would throw in COBL with races and Items Interchange.... it makes a WORLD of a difference!

oh, and btw... don't let people scare you, with the right tools, FCOM is not THAT bad to install. just pay attention to what should NOT be there and use BOSS. most of fcom frustrations come from that.

I can't play Oblivion without FCOM anymore. The sheer amount of content it adds is just amazing. It's really hard to get installed and working properly. You should start with a fresh install. Also be very careful on any other mods you add. That is where it gets me. I'm always getting one or two mods that break it and I can't fix the problem. After I reinstall Vista, something isn't compatible with 7, I'll be playing FCOM again. It's really fun. FCOM, Midas, and Lost Spires is all I really need, but the armor and weapons mods are what get me.

Completely agree. Yeah, it takes longer than your standard "mod" to install properly and it's a bit fickle if things aren't done right, but it's completely worth it for me. As with the sentiments above, I wouldn't play without it.
