Chaotic16
I have vanilla, but am looking to grab Shivering Isles + Whatever else is out now. I've heard of some problems with the Direct 2 Drive version of this game when it comes to mods, is that the same thing as what's offered on Steam? Or would the Steam version be okay as the retail, physical copy is?
bben46
The problem with D2D is their extra layer of antipiracy keeps some things from working - such as the Patches from the official Beth site (D2D has their own version of the patches) and OBSE which means any mod that relies on OBSE will not work. There is a special installation procedure to use OBSE with the steam version, as far as I know all mods work with it. I personally prefer a physical disk
Chaotic16
Is the Steam version one of these "Direct 2 Drives" I keep hearing about?
Pronam
No. Direct 2 Drive is another game download application. Don't get that one! you won't be able to use OBSE and such!If you're getting it from steam I'd recommend getting the Goty Deluxe edition, that includes all DLC besides just the Knights of the Nine and the Shivering Isles. shaklee1
I have Oblivion for Steam and I find nothing wrong with it so you should be fine. Though I have the GOTY edition instead of the GOTY deluxe edition (which I would have gotten if I had known about it). So yeah, if you're going with the Steam version and want the DLC, go for the deluxe version. I don't know if I can get the DLC I'm missing from the Online Store, so I only have Shivering Isles and The Knights of the Nine expansion.
Chaotic16
Great, thanks muchly! I was planning on grabbing the Deluxe edition anyway. I could easily just order it off Amazon or something, but I didn't want to wait if I didn't have to. Good to know nothing is wrong with the Steam version. ilovestrategy
I bought it last weekend for 8.50 since it was on sale. Has shivering Isles, Knights of the Nine and all the DLCs. It runs great. Only problem is I have no clue how to find the directory to install the mod manager.
